I went to The Locker for the Cryo Facial. It's a high-tech facial where they use a wand that emits a "steam" made up of liquid nitrogen (yes, the same stuff that they use to freeze off warts!) and they pass it over your face and hair for about ten minutes, without actually touching your skin.

I am not a huge fan of facials in general - don't get me wrong, they feel really great but they also cost a lot money and the results disappear after a couple hours - but I just loved the Cryo facial! It is definitely more of a medical treatment than a feel-good facial and the results are quite long-lasting, similar to a light chemical peel but without any irritation. My pores almost disappeared and even the next day I had a hard time seeing any, kind of like when I was a teenager (unfortunately, too many years ago!). It also evened out my skintone and smoothed out the texture a bit , again, similarly to a peel. If you've had deep dermabrasion done before, I would say this is more effective and less painful.

The best part was that the whole thing took 10 minutes (which is all the time I have these days) and cost $30 (the owner said there was no tip expectation since the facial is performed by a technician rather than a beautician).

As far as how it feels, I had a little bit of a "funny" feeling at first when the wand would pass over my nose but after a couple minutes my breathing adjusted and it felt really good. They also do quite a bit of passing the wand over your hair and that feels absolutely heavenly.

This is probably the first time that I've had an effective facial with long lasting results. I would definitely go back for more, especially because it is located next to Whole Foods on West Lake Street so I can be in and out the door in 15 minutes which is just great for us busy people.

• September 2016 Update *

I finally got my courage up to try the full body cryo "sauna" so I wanted to update my review. It is so much less scary than I expected! I get cold VERY easily (thanks to a combination of low BMI and low blood pressure) and I absolutely hate that feeling when you have to keep trying to consciously relax your body to keep it from shivering. The cryo sauna is cold but in an entirely different way - it chills your skin without chilling your whole body. It's colder than anything you've ever experienced and yet somehow it just doesn't feel that cold. Also, the technician keeps talking to you the whole time so you don't have the time to think about how cold you are.

After you get warmed up again, you feel REALLY good. Interestingly, my husband warms up and gets a euphoric high right away, but for me it takes about an hour to warm up and then I feel great the whole rest of the day. The technician said it's similar to the endorphin high you get from exercising but I feel like it's more similar to when you get a really good night's sleep and you just have this overall sense of well-being. I went to Body Techs Mother’s Day open house and am glad I did. I learned so much about wellness and staying healthy! I did a free Cryo session and you must do this. It’s easy, quick approx 2M and 40 seconds, no sweat, and no gear needed. The benefits were amazing. I felt this enormous amount of energy ( could’ve run a marathon) and slept like a baby that night. I had this sense of mental clarity- it was like something I’ve never experienced before. The cryo booth is a must!

I liked it so much, I brought my husband a few days later. We both did the cryo-machine. I went into the red light therapy booth for 20 minutes afterwards . My husband did the leg compression therapy.

The red light therapy was also simple ( I recommend going into that booth after the cryo chamber). Again no equipment needed, no sweat, - heck, you can even be on your phone.

The staff at body tech are wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable. They were able to spend time with me explaining all the services and the benefits each has. Lauren was more than patient with me as I asked her questions.

Travis, the owner, took the time to shared some unique opportunities that they perform, like bringing their cryo machine, compression chair, etc… to you in their trailer. They also travel to golf and softball tourneys. They house sports teams to come and try out all their wellness equipment. My husband, who’s a coach, is bringing it to our Booster as a team building and information night. They cater to the athlete with all their wellness and rehab equipment as well!

I learned so much about being healthy. Lauren shares that since they are supervised by medical specialists and licensed in so many areas, that you can use your FSA/HSA for your services. This was an eye opener for me. There are so many great opportunities for me as an aging woman.
