Hello, sushi lovers! I recently dined here, and I found the restaurant to be mediocre. I want to preface this by saying that if you're considering going, you should!
I decided to be adventurous and try something new, so I had a deep fried California roll. Long story short, anything in the realm of sushi should NOT be deep fried. It was anything but appetizing. The rice around the sushi was deep fried, not the fish. My girlfriend got a vegetarian roll, and loved it. I sampled and I agree that it was delicious! I have tried the sushi from here by friends giving me some considering UNE is near by. Usually, it's delicious.
Dining in for the first time my expectations were high, considering they make good food. I regret to report that the interior of this restaurant is sub-par at best. Cheap decorations that are plastic. Above all else, it is quite dirty. This was unsettling to me because I prefer my food to come from a spotless origin. The ceiling is a drop-in with the regular tiles. This normally wouldn't bother me, however many of the tiles are stained from water leaks. My glass had some smudges on it.
Service was surprisingly sub-par. Service is quite important to me, and will make or break my visit. I was served with a smile and they were nice to us. However, the organization was sporadic. In the 40 minutes total I spent in the restaurant, my table was incorrectly served twice. The two tables surrounding me were also incorrectly served as well. This may be a minute detail for some of you, but I like service to be polished around the edges.
All in all, decent little sushi joint. 4 stars for food, 3 stars for service and 1 star for atmosphere. Average of 4 star. If you decide to dine here, get take out as dining in is not...
Read moreGenuinely, one of the best experiences I've ever been offered. Jin Sushi and Ramen have real talent behind the sushi bar and their kitchen. When I went I ordered Edamame, Tamago, Chef's Special Red Dragon roll, Sapporo, green tea, and their popular Jin Ramen. The edamame was good, they brought it out unsalted and with a salt shaker so that you could determine what was a good amount. The tamago was nice and sweet and paired heavenly with the soft rice, nori, and rice vinegar. Tamago is usually a good way to judge how good a resteraunts sushi is, and it didn't disappoint. The Red Dragon was sweet, savory, and fiery and is definitely something I'd recommend. The Sapporo was nice and chilled and the green tea was great at warming me up on a chilly winter night. Finally, their Jin Ramen. Oh their Jin Ramen~ Genuinely, if you come here it's a must have. The talent that goes into balancing all the ingredients is beautiful and all at a really great price. The only thing I'm sad about is that I wasn't able to try their house sake. Just means I'll have to come back next week. This place has a customer for life. Oh also their lo-fi background music is...
Read moreOrdered the fried chicken and bulgolgi rice bowl for takeout. Was told there would be a 45 wait, which was fine, but when I picked it up 45 minutes later it was lukewarm at best, indicating it had probably been sitting for a while. The chicken was okay, but certainly there’s nothing to distinguish it from any other sweet and sour chicken that every subpar Asian takeout place serves. The so-called bulgogi, on the other hand, was flat out awful. The beef was of questionable quality, both in terms cut and freshness. The beef was clumped together, was a weird greenish grey, and looked as though it had been plopped into place with an ice cream scoop. Furthermore the dish (I’m not going to call it bulgogi, and I doubt anyone else that’s ever had bulgogi would either) was exceptionally bland—utterly lacking any discernible seasoning. The rice seemed overcooked and over all the food was dry and unappetizing. Normally I wouldn’t bother commenting on a mediocre, or even subpar food experience, but this was so much worse than that. Remarkably so. Which is a shame, because the staff seemed nice, and the restaurant...
