Salon 5th Avenue — Local services in San Diego

I have gone back and forth over whether I should leave a review for awhile now, however, after reflecting on the amount of money I’ve spent fixing Santiago’s mistake I think I would be doing other people a disservice by not leaving one.

I had seen Santiago several times without issue. I even liked his work. The last time I saw him that changed. He completely butchered my hair - layered perfectly on the left side but a Carol Brady mullet on the right side. When I tried to address it with him to fix it he got hostile and combative. I finally got tired of the way he talked to me and lost all faith in his ability to fix it.

I ended up spending $800 on custom colored extensions from another hairdresser because I couldn’t stand my hair and the only way to fix the hair without them would be an a-line bob due to the poorly layered mullet I was left with on the right side. On top of the initial investment, I now have $300 of maintenance every 8 weeks because Santiago messed up a $100+ haircut and he was too unprofessional to fix his mistakes.

I cannot recommend Santiago because of this. Even if you like his work, there will always be the possibility he will have an off day. Unfortunately, unlike other stylists, he takes no responsibility for fixing things when they go wrong.

I know he obsesses over bad reviews, and Santiago I’m sorry, but I cannot recommend his services knowing what this...

THE WOEST HAIR SALON!!!! NEVER GO HERE!!!! I went in for what I thought was a basic routine all over color touch up. I was waiting for a stylist and the RECEPTIONIST started doing my hair. She served me COLD coffee. During the hair dying process She got dye EVERYWHERE you guys. Black hair dye all over my four head, neck, ears, hands, arms, and thighs, if you can believe it. Up until this point the whole experience was giving me horrible anxiety. Two hours later we FINALLY washed my hair. But NO CONDITIONER?! She literally washed my hair and didn’t add any conditioner and she burnt my head because the water was scaulding. My hair was SOAKING wet and she sprayed a shine spray on my roots..... why?!?! Why the roots? Made my hair GREASY The experience was so bad it gave me anxiety and I had to leave with wet hair because of the UNPROFESSIONALISM. When the OWNER was reached the next day he was HOSTILE and unapologetic. !!DO.NOT.GO.HERE!! And surprise, surprise they still charged...

I have been going to Salon 5th Avenue in San Diego California since it first opened five years ago; I followed my hair GURU Santiago Mojica. Santiago has done my hair for ten years now and have done everything from awesome cuts, color, highlights, keratin treatments and Brazilian Blow out. Eight years ago I moved to the East Coast and to this day I travel from coast to coast to get my hair done. I love experimenting with color and absolutely LOVE their Brazilian Blow out, it maintains my hair looking fab every season; people that I meet always compliment me on my hair, they think that my hair naturally flows like that; I literally wash and go! I have to let them down gently and tell them they have to travel to Salon 5th Avenue in SD to meet my hair guru. If you are looking for a home for your hair, TRUST me look no more. Santiago is not only the best in this field, but you will fall in love with his personality before leaving the salon and fall in love with your hair...
