I have been here a handful of times and have wanted to comment every time. It is true, people are quicker to comment the negative than take the time to comment the positive. Every time I said I'll do it later. But, today, as I sit here, I have heard many comments of people exiting Business Office 450 on 4th floor. Most comments are negative: Well that lady was mean. These people don't ever know how to communicate things. We waited that long for that. She had an attitude. Well, that was pointless. Not one comment was good. And, when I was called, my admin wasn't so pleasant either. I won't do a one star because one person shouldn't effect the whole, but reality is, it can destroy a whole. I should have asked her if she took her lunch break yet, maybe I could get a her a cup of coffee, but in these times I'd probably be considered weird or being inappropriate. Maybe she was having a bad day or is also going through something. I won't let it effect my mood, but others have a harder time with that. Some floor supervisor needs to be present to pick up these things. Have a prebrief with staff to remind them, folks that come here, do not know, or are hardly familiar with anything about the law, jargans, and or proper location of services. I'm a normal guy here going through my personal stuff, but can pick up on these cues and see the vulnerability and efforts just to get into the building and recieve help from someone. I help as many as possible. I don't know people personally of course but I would do it for a man or women, with or without children if I think it's fair. Today, I paid for a man's copies of documents. I actually was there for the same reason, but he said out loud I don't have any money on me. It wasn't to be my good deed of the day, but to show I have been there and his $8.50 to come back a different day, with his 4 year old playing on an Amazon Fire book or whatever, and he came from Vista, made no sense-from Vista. I did not want that kiddo to have to go through that again. Then, I made copies and my window said I will only give you one courtesy copy. I said thank you and I'd like to pay for another. But, I thought to myself, I don't think the other guy was offered a courtesy copy. We have to remind ourselves people get nowhere without other people. Buyer-seller, producer-consumer, reader-writer, creator-builder, window teller- information seeker. Be there for others. OK, NOW I'M UPSET. I'm jk. Not really, I came back to a parking ticket. Be careful where you park folks. It's really hard around here. Especially lots of construction so...

Jury Duty is your civil duty so make the best of your time and always think of it as you are part of something that is important in other people’s life and you get to be part of making difference and helping.

Typically jury duty is scheduled to appear by 7:45am.

Be prepared and organized. It will make process less stressful.

Plan to be there earlier as parking can be challenging. Metered parking is more affordable but you can only be parked for 2 hours. Surrounding parking lot have daily rates but they are pricey about $40 for 10 hours or $50 for 12 hours. That’s ACE parking across the street. I do recommend to get daily rate to avoid having going in and out of the building to move your vehicle. The building is secured building so you will have to go through screening and metal detectors. Do not bring anything that can be considered a weapon.

You do get lunch break around 11:30 am. There are lots of places to eat outside the building. The cafeteria across from jury assembly room is convenient if you need to grab some little snack but it’s going to cost you. About $7 for a bottle of water and small bag of chips. There are some vending machines in the jury assembly room and a microwave in case you bring your lunch. But bring something that is easy to prepare and avoid strong flavors.

First thing is the ORIENTATION. The process is pretty smooth and goes by quickly. Waiting to be called can be lengthy so bring a book, laptop, tablet or IPad. The signal was weak for data transmission but guest WIFI was fairly fast. It’s best to dress in layers as it can get pretty chilly sitting in the assembly room but courtrooms are warm.

Again Jury Duty is our Civil Duty. Participate with Pride and make the best...

Accessibility: the parking kind of stinks for this. I recommend either getting dropped off or driving here extra early so you can drive around and see the closest disabled parking. There is a wheelchair ramp to get from the sidewalk up to the front entrance of the building. There is construction going on at the front entrance, but you CAN enter underneath the construction. Once inside the courthouse, everything is very accessible. Flat ground, 8 different elevators to go up or down to the 22 floors, and wheelchair accessible restrooms. This is a huge courthouse, very nice looking from the outside and inside. It's very clean inside, the restrooms are very clean and well-maintained, there are 22 floors (so be aware if you are terrified of heights), and so far the two judges I've met here are fair in their hearings. The parking sucks a bit because you will probably need to park in an ACE parking lot nearby and pay $30 for the day. If you know for a fact you'll only be here for under 2 hours, you can parallel park in a metered parking spot on the street and be back to your car before 2 hours is up because the meters only let you pay (with coins or credit card) for 2 hours at a time. BE AWARE: EVERYTHING GOES SLOWLY HERE...TRIALS START AN HOUR LATER THAN THEY ARE SET FOR, JURY DUTY WILL LAST LONGER THAN THEY SAY, PAPERWORK TAKES LONGER...EVERYTHING IS VERY SLOW. I DO RECOMMEND PAYING TO BE HERE ALL DAY IN A PARKING LOT IF YOU ARE COMING FOR JURY DUTY OR A TRIAL.
