Edit: I wanted to take the time to update my review for Chorus after an additional year in the building. All of what was written below has continued to be my experience living in this wonderful apartment complex.
I feel the positive experience here is largely a reflection of the staff. In particular, I have been impressed by the continued professional, extremely competent, and positive attitude of Kim, Ben, and Mamadou who staff the concierge/front desk. It’s a pleasure to see each of them and no issue is to difficult for their assistance.
Original review:
I moved across country and chose Chorus sight unseen after endless debates between various cities in the Bay Area and multiple buildings in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and San Jose. I had visited the Bay Area on multiple occasions and toured competitors but ended up taking the leap with Chorus after my initial discussions with Olivia Williams via email and telephone. I am so happy I trusted my gut and chose this building as my first "home" in the city.
I can't say enough about the staff that works here. I've lived in high-rises in various cities for the last 12 years and the staff at Chorus is a level above anything I've experienced. Olivia and Ben Atal made the pre-move process effortless. The entire lease signing process and move-in coordination was stress free (Melissa Rankin is always a pleasure to see and chat with). I never struggled to get ahold of Chorus staff and I was prepared when I arrived in the city on move-in day where I was greeted by Ben Atal, Benjamin Gordon, and Davidson Le.
The entirety of the Chorus staff has been incredibly welcoming and it's been smooth sailing since day one. It is clear that the community feel which sets Chorus apart from typical city living is not just a marketing slogan but, rather, an ethos embodied by the Chorus team. Chorus is always planning social gatherings and the staff is in tune with its residents to a degree that they can identify residents with common interests and foster opportunities to make connections. Ben Atal is especially good at facilitating this. The setting at Chorus is also ideal for the "community" feel with Reception, the in building bar, the jacuzzi upstairs and the various other common space amenity areas (all of which are as nice as pictured). On top of this, Staff is quick to handle any issues that may arise or answer questions as they pop up.
I also couldn't be happier with the valet team, Ryan Wilsie who helps sort the constant influx of packages that arrive, and the maintenance staff that keeps the interior and the exterior of the building clean (not easy with the busy location which surrounds Chorus).
I also have a puppy (he would leave five stars if he could), who cannot wait to run into the staff each time we head out of the unit. All of the front desk staff, which is manned 24hrs a day, make our late night walks, early morning jaunts, and periodic bathroom breaks that much better. There are legitimately no shortcomings with the front desk staff (Ben Gordon, Kim, Keith & Mamadou). They literally anticipate your needs and are always happy to greet you or guests and assist with whatever you throw their way. I look forward to talking with and catching up with each of them daily (my puppy loves the treats at the front desk too). The building is also incredibly safe and the security staff is constantly present.
Now to the unit, I don't hear my neighbors, the amenities in unit are great and modernistic and a pleasure to cook, clean, and live with. I honestly don't have a criticism for the unit or the building and that's a first in my experience as a renter.
If you're debating similar buildings and want a central location in SF convenient for travel into, out of, and around the city this location is great. The Caltrain is less than a ten minute bike ride away and public transit within the city is literal steps from the front door. The care of the staff, the everything under one roof amenity offerings, and the quality of the residences make this place incredibly...
Read moreThe Chorus apartment complex epitomizes sheer luxury, elevating your lifestyle to extraordinary levels. Within the building itself, every corner you explore creates a sense of fulfillment, as if you've ventured out and made the most of your day. When I relocated from London to San Francisco, Chorus exceeded all my expectations, making it an unequivocal choice. The entire staff became an extension of my family!
I resided on the 18th floor in a cozy one-bedroom apartment with an awe-inspiring view. Despite its compact size, it accommodated all my belongings perfectly. As someone who works from home, the living space provided just the right amount of room, complemented by a spacious bathroom featuring a luxuriously large shower. Chorus offers a workspace with meeting rooms, a breathtaking rooftop, and even a bar area, allowing for a variety of options when working remotely and desiring a change of scenery.
The Chorus team consistently goes above and beyond by organizing events for residents. Their commitment to creating memorable experiences is unparalleled.
The gym at Chorus is truly remarkable. Corey Lemonier, our HIIT instructor, treated our small group like it was a PT session, pushing each of us to reach our maximum potential. He knew exactly when to challenge us with extra weight, even when we doubted ourselves. Together, our group formed a bond and became friends. I'm convinced that few other buildings worldwide offer such exceptional fitness facilities.
Relaxing in the hot tub or enjoying the breathtaking rooftop views transported me to another world
While I recently left Chorus due to personal circumstances and my lease coming to an end, I already miss it dearly. In my new apartment complex, I have to leave the premises to feel a sense of being out and about. However, at Chorus, everything was conveniently available within reach, with ample space and a staff that felt like family. The experience of moving out was exceptional, surpassing my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised when the team provided paint for touch-ups and understood the natural wear and tear of living. Their support and understanding truly impressed me.
I fondly remember the Chorus family and extend my gratitude to:
Corey Lemonier: Your contributions and support in the gym and personality have made you a loved by all. Chorus wouldn't be the same without you. Thank you for pushing us all and entertaining us at the same time lol Davidson Le: Your dedication as the events planner ensured exceptional service for all residents. Kim Jose, Front Desk Manager: I miss your friendly face every morning. Even at 6 am, you brought cheer to everyone. The front desk team's attentiveness, knowing which floor residents were on and calling the elevator in advance, was remarkable. Ben, Front Desk Staff: Your kindness, care, and excellent memory of residents' lives always made for engaging conversations. I miss our chats and your fantastic recommendations for things to do in the city. Luis Padilla: Your assistance and warm welcome were always appreciated. Ashley, Director of Sales: Thank you for your amazing support during my lease renewal and for assisting me with various moving-related matters. Your dedication was exceptional. Olivia Williams, Sales Manager: I miss your friendly face, as you became part of my extended family. Your willingness to help was invaluable. Ben Atal, Sales Coordinator: Your welcoming and cheerful demeanor, coupled with friendly conversations, made you a standout. I also miss admiring your incredible artwork. Royce Song and Kiani Rosa, Bar Staff: I miss both of you. Your friendly and outgoing nature made you incredible additions to the Chorus family. You consistently checked in on everyone, offering fantastic recommendations and creating delightful experiences with your amazing drinks and exceptional service. Having a bar within the apartment complex, with two friends always ready to chat after work, was an extraordinary feature. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Chorus! I hope to call it my home...
Read moreI was one of the first residents to move into Chorus, and I lived there for just over a year. There's a lot to like: the social community, amenities (such as the fitness classes and top floor), and most of the staff. I was overall happy while I lived there. After all, it's a luxury building, but unfortunately, my experience at the end felt anything but.
Here's what happened: I tried to move to a bigger apartment, but I was often ignored by the leasing department for weeks at a time. When they did finally schedule a meeting, they double-booked me with other tenants at the same time. Then they ignored me again. After I gave them my 30 day notice, they sent a move out email with instructions on mail forwarding, move out inspections, final rent payment, etc., which I followed to the letter. I booked 3 inspections from that email, but nobody showed up until I pointed it out to the front desk. When they did come, they were unspecific about how much the charge would be to clean. I believe they are also supposed to send an itemized list, but they never did. That move out email said to stop rent autopay and to pay the final month manually. I confirmed the pro-rated amount with the leasing office, but I was charged a late fee even though I paid on the 1st of the month. They sent my security deposit refund back to the Chorus mailbox, even though they confirmed my new address. Happened to many others. I had mail forwarding so I received it, but not until more than 21 days after move out. They charged the incorrect prorated days to my security deposit—based on the day they processed the key return and not the move out date. I believe they are supposed to pay interest on security deposits (SF city law), but they did not. When I pointed out the incorrect charges, they ignored nearly all emails and just stopped responding. I had to submit a legal demand letter 4 months after moving out to get the correct security deposit back. They finally started corresponding with the legal threat. Even then, they lied about having previously issued a refund check—I had never received any correspondence or mail during that period. I did get the disputed amount wired back after submitting the demand letter.
Here are some other issues you should be aware of, some fixable, some not: Many (not all) apartments have odd layouts. The selection of appliances. They chose fancy brands like Smeg and Brondell, but you are better off with the boring brands like Whirlpool. The Smeg gas ovens would never ignite consistently in many apartments—I would fight with mine for 20 minutes before giving up. The ice machine in the fridge broke for many, myself included, and they never fixed it. They clearly spent extra on these appliances, but they must have run out of budget for a microwave, as not one of the 400+ units has a built-in microwave. The lack of wayfinding makes it difficult for delivery people and friends to figure out where to go, both outside and inside the building. While the amenities were good, I have seen other buildings with similar amenities but better execution (and moved to one). The coworking space has limited practical seating for actually working, and many of the treadmills in the gym wobble/squeak. The outdoor grill area is too dark at night, and there is not enough heating in the outdoor section of the top floor. They walked back many claims, such as a saltwater pool (it ended up being a chlorine pool) and "20G internet" (it was 200mb). The whole-building wifi is a blessing and a curse. If you want to wire in any devices, you need to chase down the ISP to activate something, and they just ignore you. Even then, it's hit-or-miss whether the device will be discoverable on the network. I had lots of issues with Philips Hue, Apple HomePod, and Lutron Caseta. I heard Google Home devices also struggle. Sonos seems ok. The dog park is disgusting—avoid the 9th floor.
Instead of asking me to send you an email to resolve, how about next time,...
