A few years ago, I stopped visiting this place because the front desk staff openly blamed me for not tipping enough — despite my leaving a 15% tip. The interaction was so uncomfortable that I chose never to return. Recently, I went back at the request of some friends, and disappointingly, the same thing happened again.
If the establishment expects a higher tip, it should clearly state a mandatory service charge or suggested percentage upfront. Otherwise, blaming or shaming customers for tipping what is considered a standard amount is not only unprofessional — it’s a poor business practice. This kind of behavior creates a hostile environment and drives customers away. It’s certainly not the way to attract or retain new patrons.
There are plenty of massage shops in San Francisco that provide great service without blaming customers or creating uncomfortable situations. I’d much rather go to a place that communicates clearly about tipping expectations upfront, instead of making customers feel guilty after the fact.
If this shop expects a higher tip, it should post that clearly. Blaming or confronting customers — especially when a standard 15% tip has already been given — is unprofessional and unacceptable. The place is singularly good and I come all the way across town to go here – and there are many choices in San Francisco but Fung Soong Reflexology has got my vote! As an added bonus, they are decidedly inexpensive compared to everywhere else I’ve tried although naturally I do tip well as the massage therapist are so hard-working. It’s also somewhere where I often drop in unannounced and there is usually someone ready and available. 10 out of 10 highly...

He spent a full hour (which was only $35, BTW) working every little muscle and stretching them. The only con is the noise from outside and inside. The place is located on a busy street in front of a bus stop, so it gets a little noisy outside, and the phone ringing inside, which was kind of loud. Also, it's nothing to look at as far as decor is concerned, but you are getting a great massage so who...
