This is the perfect spot for a cozy and romantic date night before a show at the Masonic.
We shared the mixed grill plate and it was more than enough meat for two people — would highly recommend this plate, as you can try four different types of meat, including the keftedes, adana, lamb, and chicken. It only comes with a single serving of rice though, so if splitting between two you may want to order an additional side.
My personal favorite meat was the lamb brochette, though everything was seasoned well and tasted great. The real star of the meal, however, was the warm grape leaves appetizer, with rice and tzatziki sauce that packed a ton of flavor. Don’t forget to squeeze the lemon on top!
We ordered the melitzano puree as well (it comes with pita bread), but it was a bit bland and not as puréed as we expected (it wasn’t the consistency of a dip). We’ll skip this one next time and replace it with an order of that delicious tzatziki sauce!
Excellent selection of wine, but be prepared that there’s no beer or cocktails. The staff was extremely attentive and very kind — they went out of their way to check in and brought us the food in time for our comedy show.
A quick 10 minute walk after dinner (be prepared, it’s uphill) and we were at the steps of the Masonic.
This is definitely a restaurant to try if you’re looking for something hearty yet romantic. We had no problem getting a table for two as a walk-in, and will definitely...
Read moreFunny how you can walk past a place dozen (perhaps hundreds!?) of times and never notice it. I am sad to say that happened to me with Dunya as I went here for the first time last night after living two blocks from Polk for over a year and a half!
Cute little place on Polk just a couple doors down from Bob's Donuts. It's pretty dark and not on a corner is I guess how I missed it until my roommate recommended we go. I definitely will be back.
We had some hummus & pita appetizer; the pitas were maybe the best I have ever had. I also really enjoyed the Petaluma Chicken and appreciated that they were willing to accommodate a substitution request. Food was very fresh and portion sizes generous.
The service was fast and friendly & the waiter did a nice job recommending some wine, of which they have a very wide selection. They had signs advertising a few events such as flamenco dancing every other Wednesday.
The atmosphere is casual but decently classy -- perhaps a good place to bring a date. Dunya is pretty small (although comparable to a lot of other places on Polk) and has very low lighting. They have a TV or 2 at the bar for...
Read moreThis place is ALWAYS empty but we tried it because next door was closed. HORRIFIC and SHOCKING! This place does not know or care about ADA LAW. After being sat I was asked if my small dog was a service animal and I say yes. Then I was asked for documentation proving it is a service animal by “Ali”. I said “I actually happen to have them but you know you are not allowed to ask or require that.” The waiter “Ali” was actually argumentative, saying that he had to do it, that it is not against the law (which it is). I even show him the first thing that popped up on Google showing him it was the law, he looked at me like I was crazy. I showed him what he asked for, he continued to say he had to because his manager required it. I told him than his manager should know the law, you both are in the restaurant industry. I was going to ask to speak to the manager but my father in-law just wanted to eat and leave since he was going back to NY. Only reason we ate here and only reason why were not the only table is because the restaurant next door, Toast, is being remodeled. This place is...
