A First-Time Asado Sandwich Experience
It was lunchtime and I wanted to try something new and different for lunch. So, I took a short walk from my office to the Ferry Building and decided to try Cholita Linda for the first time. I wasn't very hungry and needed to get back to the office, so I ordered an Asado sandwich to go.
The Asado sandwich is a Peruvian-style roast beef with onions, arugula, and Jack cheese on French bread. I must warn you that it is a wet and juicy sandwich, so be careful not to drip stuff on your keyboard! Fortunately, I did not, but who pays attention to keyboards while biting into a delicious juicy sandwich?! I was so focused on the sandwich that I forgot to snap a photo of it for this review!
Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, Cholita Linda is located on the back side of the Ferry Building and has plenty of tables inside and outside. The person who took my order was very quick and helpful. She answered a question or two I had while taking my order. As I was waiting near the pickup counter, I was looking at the trays of food that others were picking up. The fries looked so good that I almost added an order, but I thought better of it and, for the sake of my waistline, postponed it until next time!
The Asado was delicious and filling. I will definitely go back to try other items,...
Read moreLovely spot for a quick and tasty bit, with shockingly ample seating and affordable pricing for an outpost in a touristy destination like the Ferry Building. We ducked into Cholita Linda on a Saturday afternoon, slightly desperate for some sort of nourishment and unwilling to wait in the long Farmer's Market lines (yet :)...we absolutely went out to the Market after a couple of tacos). The line was long and space very crowded, but we moved through the line quite quickly and got our food about ~10 min after sitting down -- not bad at all and 110% worth the wait. We shared three fish tacos, which were absolutely delightful -- the fish was super tender and flaky, contrasting beautifully against the crispy, perfectly fried outer shell. It was a surprisingly veggie-forward fish taco, with a generous helping of cabbage and herbs on top of the fish. Everything was wrapped in a double corn tortilla and topped with the most delightfully flavorful crema (and extra flavorful if you added a bit of their hot sauce as well). I did feel the double tortilla threw off the ratio and muddled down the other flavors a tiny bit, but I totally understand why they chose to double wrap it -- the taco was quite hefty and stuffed with plenty of filling, so one tortilla was almost definitely not enough to keep...
Read moreWe are so glad we chose this place to have lunch. I ordered the Lechon, and I loved the flavors! The combination of everything in the sandwich was so good, especially the sweet potato fries. The bread was really good, it was a nice and crunchy French roll that added to the sandwich, so good! My husband ordered two of the Baja fish tacos, and he usually isn’t a fan of fish tacos but he loved them. He said he could tell the fish was fresh, the tortillas were good, and what really made the tacos were the delicious toppings. We ordered chips and guacamole, and the guacamole was pretty good. The churros were delicious, they had just the right crunch and were warm. Lastly, I got the strawberry agua fresca, and it was thicker than I’m used to, but I still enjoyed it and would order it again. We got to sit outside and had great people watching views. Overall, loved having lunch here and plan to...
