I have parked at this garage for various events for over 15 years.
What happened on 11.29.24 was terrible we prepaid our spot because SF Symphony has a corporate partnership with them against my better judgement since there are dozens of garages nearby with easier entry and exit options.
A parking attendant took procession of my ticket receipt, then when we tried to leave at the end of the evening we were told since we didn't have that receipt we needed to pay $30 more to leave the garage.
We were harassed for the payment, told it was our problem since we lost the ticket, were made to wait despite being the last car out of that garage before closing! We were manipulated and shaken down for an additional $30 despite paying $24 to park there, I felt like some tourist in a third world country the scam that hapoened gross!
My advice to locals....avoid this business during performance dates and use other garages nearby for a better exit and entry experience. As for the scam. do not allow any of the staff to tske any tickets from you and arrive earlier to avoid the mess this garage becomes during holiday season there are dozens of garages and self park options so do your rreseach and select the garage that bests for your needs...
Read moreSFMTA's Performing Arts Garage has many available parking spots, although it can fill up quickly when several concerts are taking place at the same time at various Civic Center-Hayes Valley concert halls. On those "event" nights, there is a fixed parking fee of $25, which you can purchase on the SFMTA website. You print out a QR code -- or display it on your smartphone -- and scan it upon entry and exit. I drove into the garage through the Grove Street entrance and exited on Gough Street. Inside the garage there is both stairway and elevator pedestrian access. I liked the wide ramps of this facility, minimizing the risk of getting scrapes on your vehicle as you turn the corners of the four levels. Although the parking fee is not inexpensive, it beats having to find street parking in this neighborhood that boasts lots of nighttime venues, including bars, restaurants, and performing...
Read moreI've actually parked in this garage without issue many times before, but despite keeping my car clean and empty, a thief tried to break in and destroyed my quarter panel glass. This happened June 29, 2023, between 7-10pm at night (while I was seeing a show). I had parked near the second floor parking pay station, overlooking Van Ness.
My rating is not meant to be a reflection on the staff of the parking structure itself; they were actually really helpful and gave me what I needed to file an initial report of this incident. The location of this garage is also very worthwhile, for obvious reasons.
Just remember that being in San Francisco is being in San Francisco, and paying $20 to park your car in a structure it doesn't necessarily guarantee...
