Not ADA Friendly: If you have any sort of disability, visible or invisible, this probably isn't the place you will enjoy what Savannah has to offer. I have lived here for 22 years and this was the worst dining experience I have had here. *Management and multiple employees harassed me and multiple others for having a disability and needing to be close to an accessible entrance/exit. *They have closed their parking lot to erect a giant tent for additional outdoor seating and there is no disabled parking (street or otherwise) anywhere near any entrance to the building. What was previously there is now covered by the tent and no longer available. They have no other options on site or on street within multiple city blocks of the building. While there are still a few parking spaces available on site, it is closed to the public. *I watched as an older gent came in on a mobility scooter. He barely got through the long hallway that they have now divided with barriers so it is only half as wide as was available by original design. (patron half and employee half. whatever you do, don't step foot on the employee half!!!) They seated him as far from the door as they could seat him, at the very back table of the restaurant and then I watched as they made him move his scooter as far away as possible from where they seated him so it was not available for his needs. We were seated in the next booth. *There is an unnecessary piece of decor partially blocking wheelchair access to the bathrooms. There is a disabled stall, but you can't get to it if you have certain disabilities that require mobility devices. The restroom was filthy! *The culture of discrimination against people with disabilities begins at the top of this organization and is deeply ingrained in the employee behavior. They simply don't seem obligated to care, nor do they appear to understand the law. There are many places in Savannah that will welcome you to enjoy your stay here and accommodate your needs. This is Not one of them. You will have a much better experience anywhere but here. Additionally, the food is...
Read moreWe were so excited to finally get downtown to experience the CBP after reading all the stellar reviews! Our server was so friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is like Cheers. It definitely has nostalgia, character and warmth! The food sounded absolutely amazing with many choices. We ordered friend green tomatoes which looked delicious and come with ranch and horseradish sauces. Unfortunately they were mealy and full of black seeds and dark spots under the fried golden crust. I’ve had sine great fried green tomatoes living here in South Georgia so I knew the difference. I ordered the baked chicken special with cabbage and greens. The chicken was very dry and the small portion of cabbage was watery. The greens were fine. The small loaf of cornbread (extra charge) came with one pat of butter and was semi warm and sweet but very dry. My husband had a burger which looked amazing, yet it was not hot and tough to cut with his knife. He’s a big carnivore and typically never comments about meat being tough but just eats it. He didn’t complain until we left. His side was onion rings and they were cold. We left most of our meal on our plates and the guy cleared them. We decided to share the peach cobbler everyone raves about. The ice cream was a good flavor but the cobbler dough was still soupy and raw. Maybe it was still early (you need to arrive by 11:15 or parking lot is full) and needed more cooking time. The crumbly part on the top was burnt. We shared with our server the chicken was dry but just did not want to complain further. She was excellent but also super busy with other tables. I really wanted to love this beautiful little place but after spending $88.00 for two people to have a very simple lunch, we left hungry and disappointed in both our meals as well as the appetizer and dessert. Spending almost 100.00 on lunch is not something we often do; but it was a special occasion and we decided to take our business here. The owner/manager was testing wine with a salesman at the bar so we decided not to interrupt his meeting and leave our...
Read moreI always used to recommend Crystal Beer Parlor to friends and tourists in Savannah because their menu was huge and they had a parking lot. Neither is true anymore, but CBP is still one of my favorites in Savannah. The parking has been absorbed by a tent and employee parking, and the menu is a bit smaller, but the quality of the food remains and the service and atmosphere (if inside) are very good. They do have a sign warning that they will not seat incomplete parties, but they did not enforce that policy, as we had a party of 13 and weather and parking had delayed a few of our party. I think they seated 10 of us without comment on the policy. (We had a family event that brought family in from all over the country and Sunday was their "free day" after the event, so we were kind of scattered by dinner time.)
Our waitress was attentive and pleasant, remembering the details and getting everyone their meals. The meals did take a bit, but we were dining on Sat night with a large party and I can't fault the kitchen for this. We had some family that (due to weather) thought they would miss the dinner and they called while we were ordering and said they were ahead of schedule so we asked to add 4 in the middle of dinner. The host and management were very accommodating and though I would never count on it, they were able to seat the 4 surprise guests with us. Again, I would not bet that they could always accommodate such an outrageous request, but they were willing to try and did not make any fuss at all about the imposition. It really made everyone's night and I am grateful.
The food is pub fare, although not exactly "standard". I have never been disappointed in the quality of their food or the selection. While I miss some items off the old menu (meatloaf burger, blue cheese chips, BBQ chips, etc), the selection is varied and workable, even for a group our size. Everyone found something and everyone was happy with their meal. The food was very...
