This place is incredibly inconsiderate and treats community members inhumanely. I am appalled at what I just witnessed by staff around 3:35pm on 2/28/21. I saw a staff member jab a large stick at a man asleep on the ground (before anyone else judges, the man was tucked away off the sidewalk in a little nook area where he was not bothering a single soul and not blocking an entrance/exit). There was no reason for your staff to harass the man that was merely sleeping! I at first didn’t even realize there was a person there until the white guy started jabbing the man asleep with the stick! I’m a resident of this community and work just a couple blocks away. I’m ashamed of your staff’s behavior and ethics. I’m also extremely concerned for this company’s ethics and ability to interact humanely with the community. I’ll be sure to let my coworkers know as we all work in this community. Our dollars should not be going to businesses actively hurting our community and it’s most vulnerable members. How would you like it if you found yourself homeless, cold, and alone and then some guy with a 5 foot long stick jab you while you are asleep harming and bothering no one? I would never wish such shameful treatment on my worst enemy. Do better.

I love this place! They have a fresh deli for the lunch hours and all the essentials if you forgot to grab some thing or just want a bite to eat and a beer to have at home. They're open early until pretty late.

Deli sandwiches here are solid and not a bad price at $8.50. I get the New Yorker with horseradish. Staff isn't the most bubbly group ever but they are nice if you are nice to them. Good lunch option

I went here with a friend today to play mega millions lottery. On the paper, we filled out 1 game, which was supposed to cost $2.

Despite two attempts, the clerk at the counter couldn't get the paper ticket to run through the machine. Eventually it accepted the ticket after one more time, but instead of $2, the clerk said it showed $14.

It was strange why the machine showed $14 instead of $2 (as we do everything the same way every time), but the clerk got super angry and aggressive about it.

He started telling us we didn't know how to play the game and that's why we shouldn't play it at all, and he demanded an extra $12. During that time, it seemed like everything was happening with audacity and that we're both dumb and that he's the boss. There was a lot of disrespect and unprofessional behavior from him.

I told him to calm down and to be respectful to us, and that he should just be able to revert the transaction. He started arguing about it and said he would have to pay out of pocket for our $14 ticket.

Then he tried to kick us out of the store saying we were causing trouble and that we should never come back during his shifts.

Despite my requests for his manager's contact information, he kept refusing and insisting we leave without providing me with such information. Once he heard I was about to contact his boss, his audacity changed a lot, and he even changed his mind about us not coming to the store during his shift (he said then you could come any time you want).

It's totally unacceptable how this employee treats customers. On all levels, this is terrible service. This is a big miss on the part of the store manager / business owner.

Everything happened today (15 July, sometimes before...

I'm not sure why there are so many negative comments, perhaps in the past this may have not been the best of places to shop(?). I use to go by for late night snacks, smokes, and beer back in 2002-05 when I lived in Belltown and worked at Shortys Bar, and still shop there even to this day whenever I'm in the area. City Foods is under a fairly new ownership and has improved tremendously. There is always fresh Deli food and produce as well as a whole plethora of micro brews ,beer on tap for growlers, domestic and import beers to choose from as well as fresh dairy products and an endless selection of tasty energy drinks and sodas. Massive frozen foods section and toiletries, plus other miscellaneous items such as pet food, various snacks, tobacco products and even incense and fragrant candles to choose from. As for prices, yes some items may be a little higher than a supermarket but you can find good deals if you spend a little time browsing thru the store. Keep in mind, I imagine the store must pay a fortune on rent and electric costs alone not to mention pay all their employees and still be able to turn a profit in one of the most expensive cities in the country. So overall I would have to say their prices are fair and what you would expect for convenience. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about most of their products, and will always do their best to help you find whatever you are looking for....and feel free to bring your well behaved furry four-legged friend because City Foods is dog friendly too! Overall I would have to say they have earned 5 out of 5 stars due to all of their improvements and awesome staff. Hope my review helps. Thanks...
