Came in for a breakfast sandwich and mango juice. The french woman at the counter asked if we had masks and I said no that I did not bring one. We were fully vaccinated at the time so we didn’t think we needed to wear a mask per the Washington state law. I know businesses have a right to set their own rules and some require masks even if you are fully vaccinated ,so I asked if she had a spare mask and she just made emotional sighs while working on the screen at the register. When taking our order she told us we have to sit outside and we told her we have no problems with that. She proceeded to repeat herself several times and asked if we can sit outside as if speaking to a mentally challenged individual. I replied each time that “yes we will sit outside”. When we ordered the juices she told us they were “not fresh”. Why sell juice if it is expired? Once we paid I asked if we could have the juice bottles to take outside with us while we sat and waited for our sandwiches. She proceeded to emotionally vocalize that she will bring them out to us. I don’t understand why can’t we take the expired juice outside with us if we already paid for it? She comes outside with the expired juice in a bag and hands it to us while yelling at both of us telling us “the state of Washington requires face masks. Its the law. If I have an inspection I can have my shop closed and I care about my shop being closed!!!!” She was so emotional we were surprised she didn’t run out of her shop with a baguette and hit us with it. She really acted as if we murdered someone. If she felt we broke the law, why not just call the police and have them arrest us? Why all the hand waiving, the emotional cries and yelling in front of other customers who were sitting outside? Maybe this is how they do customer service in France? I have walked into a Safeway grocery store before when I’ve forgotten my mask and was provided with a mask by the manager of the store with no problems. If you want to be treated with respect and dignity, please go to a Starbucks. They have them on every corner in Seattle and they follow the law by allowing fully vaccinated individuals to not wear a mask. We won’t be coming back here and we tell all our friends to go to a Starbucks instead. Avoid this place...
Read moreI lived a long while in NY, and there are a few bakeries that rival what I had out there. I believe the naysayers who have negative reviews just don’t have very good taste. I think the locals have a warped sense of what good coffee really is. Also, if you’re going to dine in, expect it to be crowded because it’s a bakery that is serving lots of food to take out—this is very common for bakeries! Now— onto the food and my perspective of service! This is hands-down, some of the best coffee I’ve had in the states. I don’t know what they’re doing, but it is just exquisite. That cappuccino was perfection. I cannot tell you how many times I get cappuccinos that are so darn sweet, coffee in general everywhere is too sweet. I could taste the flavor and it was so perfectly balanced. I love all the pastries. I’ve had so far— and I get different ones almost every time I go. The balance of crunch and fluff and fruits, it is just so damn good. Those little almond crunch cookies, whatever they are called, in cappuccino is simply amazing. Service is very straightforward to the point, which honestly felt just fine to me, like I said New York. They normally have a line out the door and need to keep things moving. I personally like to dine in because these are best eaten fresh in the bakery. These types of pastries do not keep well into the evening, so enjoy them fresh! I tried to bring all traveling...
Read moreThis storefront bakery is quite pleasant when you first walk in. The fresh smell of a bakery first hits the senses and your mouth begins to water. I was the only person in line at the counter just looking over what I wanted to order while the girl behind the counter finished helping the person in front of me. Then just as she finished, another person walked in behind me whom I guess she knew because she welcomed him very friendly. He then told her what he wanted and she quickly got it for him without even saying anything to me. This of course took me aback because first off he knew I was before him, and second she knew I was before him. Oh well, moving on. I got my order and all the bakes looked delicious. I ordered multiple things to give it a fair chance at taste. I'll start with the creme patissiere, it was flavorless. I didn't taste it at all in the pain au raisin, which I'm sure is supposed to be there. The hazelnut pastry didn't have much hazelnut flavor. And lastly the macarons almost broke my tooth biting into one of them, they're supposed to be soft and chewy. On a good note, the almond pastry was delicious. If it weren't for the fact that this place is really overpriced then I would go back for this one thing. The plain croissant was also good, but I hope it would be for a French bakery. Anyhow, I hope your experience is...
