tl;dr: Food safety standards do not seem to apply to the night crew.
I live right next to City Market. I have been a regular for the past four plus years as I personally wanted to support them. But after the past couple of times I have been there I no longer can and I have filed a complaint with the city food protection office. Here's why:
If you get their fried chicken get it during the day and not at night time. The cook at nighttime does not adhere to food safety standards.
Three times upon getting food from their deli during the night shift I have gotten ill immediately after eating the food. I am thinking this is because they do not change the oil for long periods at a time.
Upon the third time this happened I brought it up with the manager to tell him that their oil may be rancid and they may need to change it. I was blown off.
I again gave them another chance today.
I went in today to get some ground beef (wanted taco's but didn't want to head to QFC as I was being lazy) . I purchased the ground beef, upon going home I saw it had a USE/Sell or freeze by date of 04/28/2018. I went back in and brought it to the attention of the clerk, the same one as before. Upon informing him that this beef was likely rancid I again was blown off and they offered for me to replace it with another ground beef they had available. Upon looking for an alternative one I discovered that all the ground beef they are selling has the same use/sell or freeze by date. The beef was completely unfrozen and I had seen it there for awhile. So I went home and opened the ground beef to give it the smell test. Again my suspicions were confirmed, the beef was rancid.
I have had enough so I filed a complaint, hopefully this can get them in order as I really do like going there. If the night crew held higher standards towards peoples safety when it comes to food it would get five stars no question. Until then I am...
Read moreGot second hand pepper sprayed by one of the employees - still feeling issues 3 days later. Was here last Saturday evening around 7:15pm and two customers were arguing with each other. The first customer was asking the second to leave and threatened to call the police. The second customer was being snarky and employee asked him to leave the building. During this time, one employee called me over to the register to pay for my things. Both customers were standing about 6-7 feet apart from each other and neither of them made any physical threats, and did not make any physically threatening gestures. After I finished paying, a second employee ran to the second customer, kicked him, then retreated and pepper sprayed him 2-4 times from about 5 feet away. This was indoors with no ventilation and near myself, other employees, and other customers. I want to be clear that while the customer was being rude and difficult, there was no indication that he posed a physical threat to anyone's safety. I work on Olive way, I understand the dynamics and have dealt with more than my fair share of belligerent and aggressive patrons. There is no excuse for assaulting a customer and putting other customers at risk just because someone refuses to leave when asked, not only is it immoral but it's illegal to use a self defense weapon unless you feel a threat to your physical safety. Because the employee peppersprayed the customer in the doorway there was no way to exit the building without walking through residual spray in the air. I'm still experiencing symptoms from the pepper spray that I inhaled - and while the woman who checked me out was sympathetic, the trigger-happy pepper spray employee had the audacity to lecture me for not getting out of the way (I was given...
