ZERO STARS for their service alone.
My friend and his brother were visiting from California. His friend recommended Pie Bar and wanted to try it. We decided to get ramen first and I reminded everyone to save their stomachs for pie, which ended up being a big mistake.
With our tummies ready for pie, we sat down and ordered some pie and cocktails. We are all over 21 except my friend's brother who did not order a cocktail. I did my research before taking my friends here and read that the owner claimed this was a family establishment and half the seating was okay for those under 21. My friend is in his late 20s and both my boyfriend and I are in our 30s. We gave our IDs to the waitress and she approves of my friend's California driver's license. Then she got to my boyfriend's ID which is just a Washington ID; She was gone for a while and claimed that his ID was fake. He asked why they thought this and she just said it looked "weird" and didn't have some things they looked for.
Once she accused my boyfriend's ID of being fake, I had a feeling she would say mine was fake too. My ID is a Arizona driver's license issued in 2007. Since being in Washington, I'm used to people needing to take a closer look at it to confirm that it's real since they aren't used to seeing Arizona IDs - I get it, but in the 12 years of having my very much legitimate ID, I've never been accused of it being fake. With that said, I've traveled and have been to many 21+ establishments in the last 12 years. I asked her why she thought mine was fake and she said the expiration date was weird and that my license looked like a veterans license. I explained and showed her on my phone that Arizona licenses don't expire until the age of 65 and they just changed the look of their license in 2014.
After accusing us of having fake IDs, she told us we all had to leave. We asked to see the owner and he popped over briefly. We even had to explain that my boyfriend's ID was just an ID and not a driver's license so there would be some differences. He didn't even realize that which is really unprofessional for someone to not have that knowledge while owning a business with a bar. He went back again to check our IDs and the waitress came back and still accused us of having fake IDs and told us we had to leave. She was absolutely rude and combative with us.
On top of both my boyfriend and I feeling humiliated, I felt really bad that my friend from out of town was unable to even try the pie and cocktail which his ID was accepted for. I wish there was more I could do besides typing this review. It was a very bad experience and I hope they will find a more legitimate way to check IDs and be more knowledgeable of which ones are real and fake. By the way, they could have checked my boyfriend's ID on the WA State Licensing site easily. Maybe if they read this, they can make...

Walking into here, you can tell that the owner’s love is making pies. It’s an eclectic little shop with interesting lights and trinkets. It’s homey, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner goes to Burningman each year. It just has those vibes. It’s small, and there isn’t a ton of seating, but you won’t find better vibes anywhere in the city. It’s perfection. It’s like this man knows his passion is pies, and he brought his authenticity to the most perfectly homey little abode that you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced.
Let’s talk about what you REALLY wanna know about though… The pie.
I’ve been in here many, many times for sweet pie, but tonight was my first time having something savory. When I say I had the best chicken pot pie I have ever had, I am not kidding. It was filled to the brim with veggies and perfectly juicy chunks of chicken, and the crust had me SWOONING. I’ve never had a better chicken pot pie… And that’s when I decided that maybe I’ve been coming to Pie Bar all wrong for YEARS now. It wasn’t at all dry, and I’ve never had a better crust. That’s what made it. It was the crust. (AND the bite that I had that was perfectly peppery without being too much and the realization that THIS MAN adequately seasons his food!)
I decided to deviate from my usual cream pie dessert wise and had their deserted island pie. It was HEAVENLY. The apples were the perfect easily cut through texture without being mush, the medley of other fruits were the perfect ripe and sweet without being too much, and just as I suspected, that same delectable crush used of the pot pie was used here.
Don’t make the mistake that I did by passing by this Seattle Gem’s savory and fruit pies. And if you’re in the area, and you haven’t been in period, know that you’re missing out on the Best of Seattle. You’d better get...
Read moreMy hubby gives this a place a 5/5. He's absolutely crazy about pie and thought this place was amazing. Pie is not my go-to dessert and I'm a lot more picky. So I'm leaning towards a 4/5.
It was our last day in town with our friends Mr. & Mrs. V and we wanted just a little more time together, so why not dessert? We were a little disappointed to see that the sit-down part of the restaurant was closed and only their to-go window was open. But the sweet lady told us that the bar next door would allow us to sit down with our pie and we could enjoy happy hour! Sounded good to us!
Mr. & Mrs. V shared one slice of Desserted Island (strawberries, raspberries, Marion berries and apples) and one slice of Coconut. They let me try the latter and it wonderful - very creamy and flavorful!
Hubby also got the Desserted Island. I'm really not a fruit pie fan, but I did try a bite and was quite smitten. The crumbly top is what every fruit pie should have and reminded me of the blackberry cobbler my mom used to make. The top was crispy and very sweet, like a cookie. And the under side had soaked up all the berry goodness. Make sure to get it a la mode for even more fun!
I chose the PB Chocolate Pie. It had a two inch layer of a whipped PB, an inch of whipped cream and the top was covered with chopped peanuts and drizzles of chocolate sauce. Everything about this pie was light and creamy, except for the crunch from the nuts and tiny bit of richness from the...
