I wrestled with leaving this review. We all have bad hair appointments sometimes, and it’s not in my character to disparage small businesses, let alone one owned by a Black woman. I decided to write this because I think it’s important for others to consider.
On April 21, I visited Six17 Salon for a regular trim + wash and go. After I left and could better see the results, I was very disappointed. Compare what I’ve uploaded to Google results for short wash and gos on men.
Everyone’s hair is different, but Jackie achieved a great wash and go for me two months earlier. Also, I’ve considered her a great resource but I’ve pursued my own natural hair studies separate of her. Blending her advice with what I’ve found from other experts has allowed me to replicate the style between appointments, so I know it quite well.
That’s why, after the appointment, I went home to wash out what she’d done and fix it to my liking—then I noticed the bad, uneven trim. She took off too much, approximately half of my length in the front, and the left side is shorter than the right side.
I called her to express my concerns. I never raised my voice or even pointed fingers; I only said that I was disappointed with my hair because it’s not up to the standard I know she’s capable of, and I asked what can be done about it. Over the phone, she blamed me, my hair, and my care routines—this after, during the appointment, she'd complimented my hair's health, maintenance, and the style I did that I walked in with. If you need it, check Yelp for more detail (there's a character limit here).
Overall, Jackie did not take accountability for anything. I didn’t expect a refund, nor did I expect a new appointment to correct what was done. I simply thought a business owner would be accountable to the experience she created however she deemed fair. My goal was to share my experience and work together to move on until she refused any accountability, and instead blamed me and my hair. This is why I’m leaving a review.
Here’s where I think Jackie can improve:
Accountability for good customer service. At bare minimum, so little as an apology that I was dissatisfied would have been a great start, but that also was missing. Better, more transparent partnership with her customers. Setting expectations by explaining the needs of the hair during the appointment. Acknowledge with certainty when your results haven’t been achieved during the appointment and course correct with the customer partnership.
If you’re getting started on your hair journey, Jackie is a great local resource to ask questions and get ideas.
I recommend that you learn your hair. She has great tips, but some are outdated and some may not work for you. Try what she offers, learn what’s best. Get involved in natural hair communities and run your experiences by others to better understand. Be your own ambassador and pursue styles that you like or work for your hair.
Like most of us, I take great pride in my hair. I’ve worked hard to grow it, learn it, and maintain it. It’s not my goal to disrupt Jackie’s business, because I truly learned from her and will carry some of her advice into my routine moving forward. Still, just like this uneven trim is now a part of my story, I think it’s fair this experience be part of Jackie’s story until accountability is achieved.
I know my hair will grow back to my liking. It’s my goal that Jackie’s business will grow from this experience just the same.
Thanks...
Read moreI was recently scheduled for a 6am Saturday morning appointment. Upon arrival to the salon at 5:56 am I texted Jackie using the number listed on her website alerting her that I had arrived at the salon. I received an auto generated text message saying that somebody will be back to me shortly.
To add some background that will be relevant to this story later, this was my second appointment with Jackie. If you are unaware, Jackie’s salon is in a salon suite in Pioneer Square. The door to the salon suite stays locked at all times likely due to the surrounding homeless population of Pioneer Square. When I arrived to the first visit, I had to wait outside several minutes before I was able to get inside which was only possible due to me tailgating in after another stylist came and got their client.
With that in mind, I sent the text notifying that I had arrived and decided to wait in my car until I heard further instructions that she was ready to let me in. As a young woman, I did not feel comfortable waiting outside in the cold and dark alone when I could wait safely in my car right in front of the building. Time passes and at 6:10 I call the same number and I get no response, just another auto generated text message. At 6:15 I receive a text saying my appt has been canceled and I have been charged a no show fee. I try calling the number 2 more times with no success.
At 6:20 I find her Instagram and use the call function to try once again and I’m finally able to get in contact with her (Instagram was linked to another number). I tell her that I have arrived and I’ve been trying to get in contact with her via the number on her website. She responds that she has been having problems with that number and that it is now too late for me to be seen. She mentions that she was waiting inside and that I should have came to the door. I will acknowledge that I did not try to go to the door however based on my experience from the prior visit, I did not want to risk my safety waiting outside alone at that hour when I had no reason to believe that she had not received my text or calls. After some back and forth she stated that she would refund my no show fee and that was that.
A week later I followed up with Jackie regarding the refund I had yet to receive and she tells me that she changed her mind about providing a refund. This is after I have sent her proof of attempts to notify her of my arrival via text and calls. Jackie took no ownership over the fact that she KNOWINGLY has a unreliable number on her website and sent out no communication directing her clients to her new number. While I own what I could have differently, she took no personal responsibility over this poor business practice. Had I known that she was not receiving my calls and texts, I would have taken a different action.
Jackie’s handling of the situation and her decision to change her mind on the refund is unprofessional and distasteful. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company and with my text and call log evidence, I feel confident that I will get my money back. However, it is disappointing that I had to go this avenue to get it.
I do not recommend Jackie’s salon due to unprofessionalism and...

On the 7th of February I had one of the worst salon experiences of my life and I am completely traumatized. I will never visit a hair salon again in my life. I came in with pretty healthy hair down past my armpits, looking to trim 1/2”-1” off of my hair and slowly trim off more over the coming months. I had been trimming at home 4 times a year prior to this, but I wanted professional help. I had a $50 consultation and discussed this and my history of bad salon experiences with her before booking an appointment for a blow dry and trim.
On the day of my appointment, she washed and conditioned my hair well. When it came to detangling my 4c hair however, Jackie was very rough and I saw broken hairs covering the ground. When I told her, she said “That’s not breakage, it’s split ends and shedding. Stop looking at the ground.” Myself and any hairstylist would obviously know that she was breaking my hair and creating split ends, but at this point it was too late for me to get up and leave, and I was hopeful that the trim would clean up my split ends and the damage she was creating by ripping through my hair and scalp.
After blow drying she agreed that I only had to trim off 1/2” before I would seeing her again. She turned me around and began cutting. When I tried looking at the mirror she scolded me, so I didn’t see how she was playing in my head until it was too late. My hair which measured about 15” all around was now about 8”, and my cut was lopsided in the front by 2”. When I confronted her, she told me that she had only cut off 1/2”. I showed her pictures of my natural hair from less than a month ago to prove that she had cut off healthy length, and she then said that she cut off more than we talked about but that it was “dead length” (what?). She then blamed me for my horrible haircut. When I asked her why she did it, she said twice, “I knew you would do this”, and began ignoring me. I’m not sure what she meant— if it was in reference to my young age, my demeanor, or my African ethnicity. To this day I have no idea, because she kicked me out of her salon, upcharged me 90$, and blocked me.
Jackie is unprofessional and becomes easily agitated by simple requests. I left her salon bawling and she never reached out to me after, because she didn’t care. Her services are overpriced and she may just rip through your hair if you have any density, length or tight coils. She will break your hair and tell you to your face that it is just shedding. Then she will charge you $300 dollars for a service that only went for half the scheduled time and act like she did you a favor. You’re better off taking care of your hair at home. Read the reviews on google because they are representative of how she has treats clients. Save your hair and STAY AWAY from here.
Original Review from 2/7/25 I never leave reviews on google. I just left this salon, and asked for a trim of only 1/2”. I left with an uneven cut and 4” off my hair. When I told her that she had cut off way more that she agreed with, she said “I knew this would happen” and stopped speaking with me. She was very unprofessional and did not do what she said that she would for our appointment. I’m...
