This minimalist cafe was recommended to me by a colleague who raved about it. I think she visited on a weekend morning when no doubt, it was busier.
When I visited, it was a quiet Friday morning, and there were 3 other customers inside and 3 staff behind the counter / kitchen. Two tables of two entered after me in the 15 minutes or so it took me to eat, so it was quiet.
I had the breakfast sandwich, minus the bacon. The online menu offers a choice of bacon, ham, or avocado. I wasn't offered that choice, but I wasn't aware of the choice of the three as the menu board is an old style where you get the basic information of availability.
My server didn't seem interested in offering an alternative either, furyher illustrated by shouting out my latte was ready at the bar, when no other customers were being served and he didn't exactly seem rushed off his feet.
The sandwich was tasty, but if you can get rocket, garlic aioli, and a fried egg wrong, you should give up. The presentation was adequate, but nothing special, and one of the chefs delivered it to my table, not the actual server.
The online menu says that this sandwich is $11 - it isn't. My medium-sized latte and sandwich came to $21 and change. Perhaps the management should update the online menu.
In my opinion, it's highly overpriced for two slices of bread, an egg, some salad and some cold sauce of garlic and olive oil. Plus the coffee, which was excellent, in fairness.
In short, I...
Read moreI greatly enjoyed my visit to this small cafe in the Pioneer Square area. The storefront was a bit unobtrusive and difficult to spot, even while walking. But I am very glad I found it.
The dining area was diminutive but was laid back and well-kept, providing a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal. The format was walk-up-and-order and the menu featured some unusual choices. The person who took my order was very friendly and helpful, as was the barista, which added to the welcoming atmosphere.
I tried the Eggs Shakshouka, which featured eggs baked with harissa tomato sauce and feta. It was accompanied by a couple of small pieces of French Bread. It was one of the best breakfasts I have had in a while. The portion was perfect for me. They also had a good selection of coffee creations. I just had a simple Americano but was quite pleased with this choice as well, as it made a nice accompaniment to my breakfast.
In downtown Seattle, you would not expect anything to be cheap, and this was no exception. With food, drink, tax and a small tip, my final outlay was $19. But given how much I enjoyed my meal, I am not complaining about the value. I hope to have the chance to...

Walk to cafe, because hell no I'm not parking twice. The place deconstructed look, cortado on the menu. Have expectations.
Sammich on the menu, pulled pork or porchetta (also pork). I ask what that is? Chef (like the actually chef, standing 10 feet away) paints a picture, the seasoning, mimics the cut, the making and seasoning and everything but pigs middle name. I give it a try. Heck its an early lunch.
3 minutes. Soft Music in the background. sounds north Mediterranean. Midi. Quiet drumkit Punchpop. I'm feeling not quite grounded, something unfamiliar. Is it 70s Germanyfrance? 2010 Italy? Am I in 1984 the book?
Sammich arrivé. And the slice of little piggy with a hat of arugula leaves. A crispy on the outside, juicy explosion of flavor beyond its scale. And now I'm on station 11 looking down at the world, the rain falling... away... from me?
Well played, cafe Hitchcock,...
