How this store got the positive rating it currently has is beyond me.
I have an 18k yellow gold that was given to me by my father. My plan has been to give this ring to my oldest son, so today I went out in my neighborhood (queen anne) to find a jewelry store to polish it (usually a small task of putting it in an ultrasonic cleaner for a few minutes than buffing out the small scratches on a polishing wheel)
Normally if you take a simple signet ring (all gold, no stones or other complexities) to a jewelry store they will polish it on the spot or have it ready later in the day. If they are really slammed with customers you may need to wait a day or two.
I don't think I have ever been charged for this service which most jewelers look at as good customer service that helps them attract and retain customers.
Today at Swissa Jewelry all of these assumptions based on prior experience changed.
When I went into Swissa, a salesperson asked if I had the ring with me, then when I asked when it would be ready she said the end of next week (7 days). Then I thought I'd better see if there was a charge since the wait time was so out of the box.
She quoted me $125. I think the first words out of my mouth after she reconfirmed the price again was "you're s$@#@&% me."
I think that startled her so we had a couple more words and I walked out.
I wanted to shop locally on queen anne but will need to bus it downtown to Ben Bridge, tourgen rain, Macy's or Nordstrom where I've had this done before at no charge and with a smile.
This is a long note but I think it is important to share experiences like this. Queen Anne is a pretty upscale neighborhood in Seattle and I think sometimes some merchants think they can charge outrageous prices and minimize their service and the locals will just pay it. Most of the merchants that do this tend to be small mom and pop outfits who haven't yet realized the competition, in brick and mortar and online, is much more fierce today than when they first opened years ago when people's shopping choices were limited to the local neighborhood.
Wake up please! For your own good and for us customers who are trying to shop locally and support neighborhood...
Read moreI recently visited Swissa Jewelers, an iconic old-school jeweler in Queen Anne that, unfortunately, seems to have online reviews/accusations of rudeness and bad service. As a longtime customer and fan, I feel compelled to defend them. Swissa offers a unique and unforgettable experience tailored to clientele who appreciate their no-nonsense, cost-saving approach, and exceptional craftsmanship. If you seek a more generic service experience, head to Turgeon Raine or Tiffany’s, and pay 10x more for your diamonds and gold. This establishment is unapologetically authentic. Moti has a straightforward and direct demeanor, seemingly perceived as rudeness, and he is part of Swissa’s charm. Moti provides honest advice without sugarcoating things. If you or your significant other can't handle Moti - an old man with a 5 pound dog, who owns a small business with his wife of many years - can they really handle the hardships of life?
Moti, similar to the iconic East Coast soup stand owner in Seinfeld portrayed by Larry Thomas in Season 7, Episode 6, is a unique character. I often tease him and eagerly anticipate his most "rude" responses that never fail to make me smile. He is a great banterer.
Here's to Moti and the distinctive experience he offers, as he won't be around much longer. Please remind him that he is old and that he may not understand how the world has changed. I hope you are reading this, Moti, and look forward to and anticipate your...
Read moreI decided I was done waiting/trying to get small enough to fit back into my wedding rings--and went into Swissa to discuss my options for transferring my original stones while creating my own style. I went in with a bit of a punchy attitude, made jokes about my situation, etc. Both the man and the lady were around. They were helpful, chatty, and had an easy back and forth with each other--that kind of banter that can only comes from many years of marriage. They reminded me so much of my husband and me, and I can't help but hope to have that same report with my husband in 30+ years. I was in the store for probably an hour and a half--as they walked me through sizing, rings that best suit my diamond, etc. They were comfortable telling me that the rings I thought I wanted weren't well suited to my hands. Their attention to detail was excellent. I appreciated their honesty and directness. My rings came back beautifully, well within their estimated finish time. I encourage others to go in here knowing this couple is a little spicy, but they're very charming and do an amazing job.
It feels really grown up to say something like "My Jeweler"... but, well, Swissa is...
