Unique & Beautiful Jewelry, Artwork, lush silver Our family (3-generations) has shopped at Barbara’s for decades, both in SPI & Matamoros- always greeted with a warm hug & unwavering service. Even our college student & her friends are warmly welcomed. If a sales person is near us, I never feel “watched”, I only feel there is someone ready to assist, with excellent service, or keys to unlock jewelry / accessory cases. Unfortunately, the shop must have learned some difficult lessons from theft & maybe safety measures for a female-managed business, and it’s staggering some tourists don’t realize this: Disregard the whiners & enjoy this top-tier boutique. When we arrived the sign said open but was locked. After a little bit we noticed a will return sign for just a few minutes later. So instead of loading myself and everyone back in the car we went across the street to shop at another store until they returned. We were in the other store for 20 minutes before heading back over to hers to shop and she towed my car - all the way back over the bridge with my 3 small children’s car seats inside. We were trying to shop at this store and she towed us!! We tried knocking on the door, ringing the doorbell and calling the store in an attempt to find my car - all without answer as she hid behind the counter. Yes, we could see the top of her head moving around hiding behind the counter. And her car was outside. And the will return sign was gone. She should be ashamed of herself to treat patrons this way!! To say the experience was awkward is an understatement. They keep the door locked during business hours so you have to ring a bell to gain entry. I assure you their wares are not of the quality or price to warrant such security. Upon being granted entry, the woman who was working preceded to follow my husband and I around the store, not to be of actual assistance but as if we may attempt to shoplift. Having long been a customer of Neiman's, Saks, Nordstrom's, etc. we are fairly well versed in luxury retail shopping. Having the shop employee troll about made the experience very uncomfortable and we chose to leave within minutes. Will definitely not return...
