This place looks quaint on the outside but believe me, it punches way over it's weight class. Me and my son ordered the Cajun Cork Screw Pasta with shrimp and sausage and we were amazed by how great it was. Then we split a plate of BBQ shrimp and i thought, are we still in the RGV? That creation had no business being that delicious. Then we tried the beignets for desert. I imagine it's what its like to bite into a sweet fluffy cloud. The service was great and they gave me 2 complementary XX beers because of the wait. The wait was worth it because it's all made from scratch. Dont even get me started on the Asparagus that came with the BBQ shrimp. Cest Magnifique!! The staff so friendly, professional, and attentive. The chef even came out to ask us how everything was. World class old school hospitality and charm. I thought we were going to spend well over 100 dollars and it came out to about 72 dollars including a 20% tip because believe me they earned it. This is One of the top 10 meals I ever had and that includes international travel. The best part it's a 20 mile drive away and totally worth it. The decor is pretty unique, no spoilers you'll just have to see for yourself. You might go in hangry but you won't leave grouchy from the...
Read moreWow! What a great addition to the Port Isabel area! A restaurant based on authentic Louisiana flavors! The chicken and sausage gumbo was terrific; and the chicken fried chicken entree was also delicious (the andouille sausage sauce was excellent- not loaded with salt which I really appreciate!). The Beignets (last time I had those was three years ago passing through Louisiana!) made for the perfect lite dessert finish. The front dining room is has an open and airy feel; smartly appointed with black table cloths, and cloth napkins, large glass windows, and maroon curtains; and is eclectically decorated with tons of old photographs and unique artwork. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful, and seemed to enjoy working there! There is a comfy room in back with soft cushioned chairs and sofas, as well as the “grouchy gringo” photo spot where you can take your best grouchy selfie and submit it in the monthly contest. Thank you Grouchy Gringo for providing a great alternative to typical Mexican seafood! As for drinks, for now (Oct 2024) it’s BYOB, but may change in the future. Parking on the right side of the building and some street parking too. Delivery for $5 to surrounding areas (PI, SPI, LH, LV), $25...
Read moreOverall terrible experience, started good, got seated right away, got drinks quickly. We waited over an hour for our food, portion sizes were tiny, i ordered the bbq shrimp, came with mashed potatoes, asparagus and got a side of fries, shrimp came luke warm, the sauce was discusting. Mashed potatoes were bland and dry, had 5 tiny sticks of asparagus, small portion of fries. The waiter said he took our order in arrangement so things dont get confussing and the cook knows who ordered what. Then gave my sister in law the wrong burger, wait was to long to correct it so she said theyll just take this birger and bill the right burger, my wife ordered a salad and mashed potatoes, they brought that out 5 minutes after everyone elses food came out but i had to walk up and tell them they forgot her mashed potatoes. Went to pay the bill, waiter skipped the check view on the pad, GRATUITY IS ALREADY INCLUDED WITH THE BILL BUT ANOTHER "EXTRA" GRATUITY OPTION COMES UP AT THE END BUT THEY DONT TELL YOU. Make sure you...
