Update: As of today July 8th I have not received a phone call with an apology or a response as to why I was turned away with a valid receipt in hand. I had to travel over an hour away from my to Columbia SC to return my items where I had no problems at all and they were extremely friendly. I have already contacted the better business bureau and next will be an attorney. I have reached out to your customer support with exact details on this matter. I would like an update on how this is being handled. On June 19th I went in to exchange some clothing my children’s grandmother had gotten them 2 days prior. My children’s grandmother told me the associate who rung her up that day told her I would have no problem exchanging them if I needed to with the receipt. I had the original receipt she gave me when purchasing them. When I got to the register I was told by the associate “Christina” that he would not be able to exchange the items without the original form of payment even though I had the receipt. He stated that this was Children’s place policy. I left politely but I know that information did not sound right so I did research of my own. I called the store in Greenville SC to confirm if this was in fact true. The employee let me know as long as I had my receipt that I 45 days to exchange or return items. I went back into the store politely once again to tell the employee “Chistina” what the Greenville store stated. He stated “I’m not doing it for you, you can drive to Greenville to let them do it.” I politely asked for corporates number at this time. He stated “I don’t know it. Google it.” I called the Greenville SC store again and they gave me the corporate number with no problem at all. He proceeded to say that he was going to call security on me to have me escorted out with no reason to do so at all. I never once raised my voice or acted ignorant as he displayed. I asked for the managers contact information during this entire interaction he kept stating that he was the manager and that no one at the store was above him. He left the store unattended while customers were shopping to call security on me. I let him know that in no way shape or form was I intimidate by him calling security and that when he did they would be greeted by a lawsuit as I hadn’t done anything that would have given him a right to have security come. He stated “that’s fine we have insurance.” This all boils down to I was shopping while black on Juneteenth with a receipt in hand for items purchased 2 days ago and treated like a criminal. This all took place while I had my two small children with me. I’m disappointed that my 3 year old was able to see a glimpse of the hatred in the world we live in based on the color of our skin. I was humiliated in front of other customers and made to feel less than will patronizing such a business who hires people who acts as such. “Christina” felt so power hungry and thought he could make up his own policy not to service me. I will stop at nothing until this reaches the top of the ladder. I will never be shopping at this establishment with my hard earned money just to be treated like a number. I choose to be an example to my children on that day. Teaching them when faced with ignorance, choose the opposite. I call customer service to ask if they can send my items I’m missing and they stated they can’t, they can only issue a refund okay I proceed to say I’ll take my refund for my missing items and then the lady says she has sent me to the fraud department and I will need to wait for a call LIKE IM TRYING TO STEAL MORE ITEMS so since Im missing so many items they said i cant get a refund .
