Me and my family just moved up here from New York I've been a outdoors man all my life I hunt fish and shoot for sport I own rifles that I bought legally in New York and the gun laws are very different from New York then Pennsylvania Especially the pistol laws, now since being new to the area I was told about Dunkelbergers and there pistol range by my Real estate agent she said there not really big but not to small they do gun smithing and they also have shooting classes for women and that is great I told my self because any one who is married knows trying to teach your spouse about gun safety is harder then pulling teeth lol love you Honey, so me and a buddy of mine who also just moved up here from New York go down to there pistol range very busy witch was a good thing and a saw sign for lady's night witch I thought was cool, but this is not the reason I will never go back even tho we didn't even get a chance to shoot because they were so busy that's fine it's when I tryed to ask a question about the pistol laws in Pennsylvania the gentlemen behind the counter did not what to give me a Honest answer, I'm a full time resident in Pennsylvania but I work in New York and for my job I need to keep a New York drivers license my question to him was what do I need to do to buy a rifle or a pistol in Pennsylvania Legally his answer was you can't your id states your a New York resident and he said he would not sell me a gun at any of the Dunkelbergers locations so with that I said to my self wow this is how they treat there customers, I did my own research and went to another gun shop witch I found to be very Reputable all I need to do is get a Pennsylvania residents ID and a few bills that prove that I live in the state of Pennsylvania, I'm shore they got a lot of great stuff but a gun shop is not only there to sell you guns and ammo they should be there to educate people about the second amendment rights not blow them off I'm shore they get a great deal of knocle heads from New York and New Jersey who want to buy a gun and thinking coming to Pennsylvania it would be easy but get to know your customers before making a stupid comments not only did they denied me my second amendment rights but they also lied about Pennsylvania gun laws, I'd rather pay more then go back there I would never use there range and I would never send my wife there for...
Read moreEvery department in this store is a glorified front for the gun counter, which accounts for the bulk majority of the business done at Dunks. This is your typical, old school sporting goods store; dimly lit, cluttered, trophy animals on the walls, dust on the merchandise, yet cozy. The staff is usually knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, as most are outdoors-type people. Men's and Women's Store has some nice apparel worth browsing. There is also an independently operating tailor inside the Men's store who is very helpful and courteous. Archery department is great, they love what they do and will be happy to help you out. There is also an archery range in that department, open to the public. The shoe department is pretty lacking, and clothing mostly consists of Carhartt work clothes. Some camping stuff to be found, but not a lot. A few canoes are found on the ceiling, and a couple models of metal detectors are available for purchase. Fishing/optics has a pretty decent selection. The gun counter is always very busy, the phone rings constantly. Be prepared to wait, and wait awhile. The majority of the customers for firearms are New Yorkers, many who speak and look like goodfellas, bloods, and russian mobsters, as well as a few locals thrown into the mix. The price of ammunition jumps up daily, as the management sees fit. I would not be surprised in the least if some of the used guns bought by Dunks end up in war-torn Africa. Overall, customer service is poor at the gun counter because they can easily afford to lose a few patrons. If they don't like the way you look, they won't give you the time of day (there are no minority associates in any department accept in receiving) Dunkelberger's also owns The Pocono Pistol Club. This was once an NRA 5-star rated range. The NRA official who certified the range and its staff has since ceased doing business with them for multiple safety infractions, thus making it...
Read moreOMG!!! Can't say enough wonderful things about this little store!! We were passing thru headed across the boarder to NJ to stay for a wedding saw the store decided to come back the next day to visit the quaint little city called Stroudsberg. We are SO thankful we did. The BF went in to scout out deals and I remained in the car to relax since very rarely do small towns have reasonable prices on firearms. He came out excitedly and dragged me in saying he had good news. Upon entering I noticed a well stocked, varied selection of many things I'd see at my local Dunhams. The prices were as good if not better on the merchandise and the staff were ultra friendly. We made our way back to the firearms section, where I noticed an easily visible selection of weapons on both the wall and in counter showcases for sale. We are from Michigan where we have access to almost all normal guns and ammo with our Concealed permits and prices are reasonable given access. This store had an excellent selection of hunting accessories, pistols, rifles ammo and their accoutrements.
We spoke with a gentleman who respectfully gave us all the info we requested and made suggestions for alternatives based on my preferences for weight and balance in a rifle I was considering. He never pushed us towards the more expensive weapons or dismissed my concerns, he just really knew his business and it was a pleasure having someone so educated to debate and exchange knowledge with. Their prices btw, are ones you look for online while you sift amongst the expensive markups. Everything we looked at had pricing that tempts you to buy. I made my purchase knowing I was getting exactly what I wanted and had no qualms.
I'd be broke if I lived this town just because of this store. Lol Seriously tho, when we again need to consider another piece for defensive use, we fully intend on making this store our first call....
