I am currently enrolled at the SJVC Temecula campus in their Medical Office Administration certificate program. So far I am enjoying my course and there is a lot that needs to be learned in a very short amount of time; 5-weeks per each module over a 9-month period. I rated it 4-stars because I have not completed the program yet which will not be until February/March 2021. I have read a lot of reviews about SJVC and on the gradreports dot com site, the reviews are not favorable for externship and job assistance albeit I do not know if those reviews pertain to SJVC as a whole or just for certain campuses. So I will update my review for the Temecula campus when my program is completed.
Let me preface this to say that we are all doing distance learning 4-days per week with on campus lab classes once-per-week due to the pandemic, so it has been challenging for both instructors and students but everyone is doing the best they can under these challenging circumstances. As for the instructors at the Temecula campus, I can say that out of the 4 instructors I have had thus far, only 1 did I question as to why that individual was an employee at SJVC. That particular individual clearly did not have any interest in teaching and would just throw out A grades even when it was not deserved and then "showed up" only twice for instruction. The instructor had a very difficult time putting together the course material which can be frustrating to those of us who are there to truly learn. My other 3 instructors have been great and they will recognize which students who are sincere about why they're there and the instructors will push those students and motivate them to meet challenges to prepare them for life after college.
I have already received my HIPAA certification and have received an Academic Excellence Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. However, I am only half way through with roughly 4.5 months left until completion as I still have externship to complete and the NCCT exam. My advice to those who are interested in the MOA certificate program, while enrolled also make use of youtube, and the many books you can find online to rent or purchase to help you along the way because again, it's 5-weeks per module. It is fast-paced due to the short amount of time given but that goes for all certification courses. The more information you learn and retain, the better prepared you will hopefully be after you complete the program. Take a lot of notes and make use of the NCCT website that has quite a bit of useful material for you and they even have practice exams that you can take advantage of so that you can review your strengths and the areas you need to work on before you take the final NCCT exam. I cannot speak about job prospects as I am not there yet so I do not know what the job market truly looks like for MOA's.
I personally have enjoyed my time thus far at SJVC's Temecula campus and hopefully all of this hard work will truly pay off...
