Sit 'n Sleep — Local services in Torrance

The 800 number customer support for Sit ’n Sleep is simply the BEST!. My wife really wanted an Organic mattress and after searching online we decided on the Avocado Green Box Top (Medium Pillow Top) after testing the options they had at the Store for Avocado. It was nice and softer than the standard Firm Green Mattress but not extremely soft (like the Plush Top - I had issues with very soft mattress in the past where my my back/body would sink in and was very uncomfortable. Also purchased the Avocado Mattress Pad Protector and Avocado Bed Frame/Foundation. Delivery was quick within a couple of days.

As soon as we lay on it the first night we noticed that it was very firm (definitely felt different than what we tested at the store) so we call the local store and they told us it needed to break down after a couple of months. A few months passed by (we had our kids jump on the bed often and I walked on it several times a week for many weeks) but the mattress didn’t get any softer. We even bought a mattress pad/pillow top but didn’t help. Every morning my back was hurting more and more. Then we left out of town for a few months and forgot about it until we returned and I started to sleep on it again and my back pain returned. By the time I called the store again 6 months had passed and the local store representative told us we couldn’t return/exchange it since it was outside the trial period for an Avocado mattress. They told us to call the 800 number. I don’t know if I was very lucky but the lady that helped me was amazing, without much fuss she agreed to help me exchange the mattress without even having to pay the restocking fee (no restocking fee for Avocado mattresses, if I remember correctly).

We went back to the store and found out (for some strange reason) the person that initially helped us buy your first mattress must also help you exchange for a new mattress AND for an even stranger reason (maybe their commission is taken away or simply they don’t get a commission/bonus for an exchange) he wasn’t very thrilled/happy about it. He was still very professional (I want to emphasize this, he was very professional) but kept insisting and telling us to call Avocado or the 800 for Sit ‘n Sleep customer support to resolve this, which I had done already. We didn’t get any jokes like the first time we purchase the mattress. Another customer next to us was buying a new mattress and the sales guy was very happy/thrilled to help and heard this joke he was saying: What’s the difference between a terrorist and your wife? You can negotiate with a terrorist. 🤣

I’m sure we got a defective Avocado mattress and luckily we were able to exchange it and decided to go with the Tempur-Pedic PROAdapt Medium Hybrid 2, which is much better mattress and we are very happy with it.

I realize when one enter a Business like Sit ‘n Sleep, there is the “luck-of-the-draw” when it comes to which Sales person will be available to assist you. Well, my wife and I “hit the mother lode” when our sales representative was Mr Johnny G., from his greeting to us, his prompt and efficient sales knowledge of each and every mattress and other products sold by Sit ‘n Sleep at the 18833 Hawthorne Blvd location, I rate both the location and Mr Jonny G. 5 Stars, no 5 plus Stars.

Let me tell you about the Store first. This location is very convenient to find on Hawthorne Blvd, the parking lot is clean and easy to locate a parking spot. Upon entering the Store itself one will find a clean and spacious business. There is a large number of mattress types, sizes and styles. This to me is the first 5 Star rating I am giving.

Secondly, the Sales Repre, Mr. Johnny G., from his personality, one could tell, he enjoys his contact with the public. Mr Johnny G. knows his audience and what product meets their needs when it comes to mattresses. Yes, he has help from Sit ‘n Sleep’s scientific computerized mattress that measures the body’s pressure point when one lays on it in their sleeping positions. And with this information Mr Johnny G. can direct the customer to a near perfect mattress match for one’s sleeping positions.

Mr Johnny G. will show you at least three different mattress types and price ranges without any pressure on the customer to pick a mattress and if needed the customer can try out more than the initial samples. Mr. Johnny G. is a pleasure to talk with and not just about the products his company offers. Today, we visited the Torrance store and were assisted by a sales representative named Zach. He took the time to truly understand both my wife’s and my preferences, and despite our relatively low budget, he was able to offer us the perfect product. We also appreciated the fact that he provided a discount that fit within our budget. To be honest, this was our first mattress purchase in 10 years, and prices were higher than we had expected. The final payment ended up being about $300 more than I had initially imagined, but thinking of it as paying $300 for Zach’s excellent service made the purchase feel completely worthwhile. Mattress sales can be a bit like car dealerships — it’s a tough business. But instead of being pressured into buying an expensive item for the store’s benefit, what we truly value is honest communication and sincere service. While a mattress may not be the most expensive purchase in one’s life, it’s also not something you replace frequently. That’s why I believe that it’s precisely in these kinds of difficult-to-sell products where a store’s philosophy and a staff member’s sincerity really shine through. This experience even gave me a chance to reflect on how I conduct my own business.
