In the mist of a weight loss journey so I came looking for some cheap in between outfits. I was impressed with the large inventory and especially the plus size section . However the condition and style of most of the clothing was not great. Very outdated styles , loud ugly prints and all the clothing was well worn. The younger girl working the register was not rude exactly, but certainly not warm or Custer service focused. When I asked to use the dressing room she acted like I was inconveniencing her and told me to wait that someone would be over shortly but said it with a chip on her shoulder. Check out (of the 1 item I purchased) was relatively the same, she acted like I was interrupting her doing whatever she was doing with the clothing behind the counter.
After seeing the quality of clothing I went home and went through my closet. I’ve been on a weight loss journey for a year so I have many items in like new condition that I have out grown. All of my clothing comes from Lane Bryant, Stich Fix, or Wantable. High quality expensive items. I have everything from business suit blazers, flirty summer dressers to jeans new with tags! All excellent quality and condition and in style as well as in season. I filled up two bags and brought them to sell them. This time there was an older woman working . I swear these people must hate their jobs as they are miserable and make you feel like you are such an inconvenience . She asked if I’ve ever sold to them and I said no. She explained how it works , gave me a form to fill out took my ID, then proceeded to point to a board in the wall telling me the only items listed are what they are looking to buy. Designer handbags, shirts new with tags, business bottoms, sports bras and “unique dresses”. Before even looking at what I brought she said “if you don’t have any of these items we are not interested.” I said well I have dresses but what do you consider unique”? She said fun colors patterns and material” ok well that’s a wide range, and I had a few items like that. Then she said “absolutely no denim of any kind” and I was shocked I said what? Why? I have new with tags jeans in here . She said “the list is posted online so you couldn’t have looked there before bringing your stuff in “ lady, I just told you I never sold to you. What makes you think I looked you up on line or knew there was a list?!! Then she said “I’ll take them and look through everything but if it’s not on the list we don’t want it”. I said “go ahead. There are some cute dresses and skirts and what I have is far better condition than what you have on the racks”. Then she said “it will be an hour and half or so” . This shocked me. I asked why so long and mentioned I don’t live in the immediate area so I really can’t sit in my car for an hour and a half o look through my two bags, it shouldn’t take more than 10 min even in between customers (not that there were a ton of customers at 10am on a Wednesday) she said “well I’m alone and that’s how long it will take me” I just took my stuff and left.
I don’t think I will come back not as a provider or a buyer. The staff is borderline rude and they clearly don’t want quality...
Read moreFirst, let me say that I am usually the most forgiving person as I know how difficult working in this field can be, especially because people have can have emotional attachment to their things. However, my recent visit was so disappointing and frustrating that I hope this serves as an opportunity to consider how an experience might really matter to someone.
This week, I visited the store twice in one day. In my first visit, not many of my items were taken, and that's ok. The issue began when in an effort to learn about the process, I explained that I had looked at the website before going so that I only brought what they needed. I told the staff member that I had a whole bag of nice pants at home and she never said they were collecting them. I asked about the process. The staff person indicated that it often is just based on customer demand but sometimes they will anticipate things seasonally, thus they are collecting coats and sweaters. I happen to have a couple so I went back home, grabbed them and returned later in the day. At that point, I was told it would be a 2 hour wait. When I returned 2 hours later, my stuff was not ready, I was told 15 minutes. I couldn't wait because I had to pick up my son from camp. They told me to "get him and come right back" (which was not convenient as he was intentionally on my way home from the store but my stuff wasn't ready). I picked him up, arrived back at the store 15 minutes later and my order was still not ready. I waited 45 minutes more in the store, checking in multiple times. While there, I also discovered that their whiteboard had a different list of wanted items than the website and the pants that I mentioned earlier and had in a bag at home were on the list! In addition to never getting an apology, the same staff member had no idea who I was every time I walked up to the counter! I literally gave my name 5 times in that 2nd visit (twice to a different staff member). I left feeling like my patronage had little to no value to them, despite also having made a purchase. Again, I'm disappointed more than anything. I typically donate my things because I know how much that helps but I thought that maybe I would get a treat for myself occasionally if I consigned some things. If this is the experience that I'm going to have when I go, I would much rather live without a Michael Kors purse.
PS. I have never been made to feel this way or had this kind of experience at Platos Closet, despite often being told that my items are better suited for...
Read moreLove the store !! I frequent many consignment shops but this is by far one of the best ones. I live in Arizona and always tune in for their live shows because a I love Crystal and the presentation and the information that she shares you almost feel like you’re there feeling it and touching it in person. She tells you what the fabric looks like gives you a good idea of the texture the color n brand if it has pull or give and if it’s really true to size. Being out of state I appreciate that because I know what brands I fit into on a general basis but it’s always good to have additional information. They have a wonderful variety n selection of merchandise and sizes . I love them as they tend to get a lot of Chicos n Talbots which is my absolute favorite and can be expensive. Addie has a great show on the weekends too I love watching her and the shipping is just beyond belief if I’m not able to attend a live show I take pictures send them what I’m interested in n want what size it was the number and they’re able to tell me quickly if it is still available or not. For the price of shipping I’m able to get a large number and quantity of clothes that are high caliber for a relatively low priced as they know how to package it and get the most bang for my buck I appreciate and love...
