Hibachi for diner, without the onion volcano and sake squirt gun.
Listen, when I was a kid, I loved the hibachi hijinks. All the little tricks and jokes the chef would play, they were great, but I'm old now and all I want is my food. Sure I like to watch it being made by a seasoned professional, but don't try tossing shrimp into my mouth or tossing your spatulas around like a juggler. Just make the food.
So take out it is, because I don't want to harsh on anyones vibe, and if you're going to a hibachi then you're going for the fan fair. Ordered over the phone, going with the calamari hibachi diner with the fried rice for pickup an hour later. Total came to a little under $29, not bad, especially for the sheer amount of food they give you in a hibachi diner.
Pickup was easy, the staff was nice and attentive, so I tipped and was on my way home with my meal. Once home I opened everything up, and I was not wrong about how much food you get. There's of course the calamari, the fried rice, but also sautéed vegetables, clear soup, a ginger salad, and even some noodles. It was clear I was in for a full tummy.
Started with the salad and soup, which were both delicious and refreshing, the ginger dressing on the salad was a tad watery but the soup was perfect. Then I kind of picked at everything else till I ate it all. The fried rice and great, with little chunks of fried egg in it. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, with some great savory flavor. The noodles were surprisingly fantastic, a little dry at first but I mixed them in with leftover sauce from the calamari and they really came to life. Now the calamari, was overcooked. It was rubbery as heck, very chewy and squeaky, and there were no tentacles! It was all just the tubes, I think? They were this weird spiral looking calamari I have never seen before, but when I think of calamari I think tentacles and rings. So I was a bit disappointed about that. They also had almost no flavor, and I had to rely heavily upon the sauces they included.
Overall, I'd still come back, but maybe not for the calamari diner. Perhaps I should try the...
Read moreDon't bother going here go get some real food at Delmonicos steak house in Clifton park..... seriously! Sake Bon this place is a rip off here's why. Low quality filet mignon chicken and shrimp. This place is seriously trying to cut costs to the max by purchasing low quality meat chicken and seafood. 1 my meal came out cold you know why? It was being hibachi cooked in another room in which the meal was being cooked with another party and as each part of the meal was cooked it was slapped on a plate sitting to get cold mmm yum. You would think common sense would kick in and they would at least slap it on and reheat it before serving it but nope none at all. The only part of the meal that was hot was the rice and noodles obviously because they cook them last. My meal tasted great but the chicken shrimp and filet mignon were trash. They soak the hell out of the plate with marinade to mask the quality of the food then they get people drunk on sake by spraying people in the mouth with saki and the people order drinks and become oblivious. Yeah they spray saki in all hibachi places yeah I know I am light years ahead of you this ain't my first rodeo I get around. To end my filet mignon was filled with gristle which made me really mad to the max. I paid my bill and didn't say a peep I just will never return and posting this is my ultimate response I'm sure they're very aware of what their doing it's all a simple equation to get max profits while screwing the customer let's just say they weren't even packed for a Saturday night but guess who was ??? La Fiesta a few steps away I love that place I could have had a better meal for half the price but it was so packed I couldn't even get in the door it was jam packed...
Read moreOk, you all (Facebook group 518 Foodies) talked us into going to Sake Bon Japanese Steakhouse Clifton Park . I had a lot of disdain for the former Chinese buffet in that spot, so I had zero interest of ever trying Sake Bon. My better half had me thinking we were going to pick out fish at Market 32, then turned us around and went to the corner of the plaza. The exterior is the same, unassuming storefront it has been. Walking inside, I was pleasantly surprised by the remodel! The service was very brisk - we barely had time to finish one thing, and we were off to the next. We had hot sake (soothing) and a lycheetini (a bit underwhelming and sweet, for my taste). For an appetizer, we has the Sunburst Appetizer (Lobster salad and mango wrapped in seared salmon with mango chili and eel sauce, black caviar), which didn't taste as I imagined it would, but was still a refreshing starter. Bear had the shrimp and salmon habachi dinner, and I had the swordfish. There was enough food for me to make 3 meals out of, and Bear brought home a few bites haha. Other than the salad (not impressive, with red tinged bagged salad mix), the food was extremely flavorful, well cooked and plentiful. I particularly liked the fried rice. Hibachi meals come with salad, soup, shrimp, veggies, fried rice and noodles. 3 adult beverages, 2 hibachi meals (with lots of leftovers!) and one sushi appetizer came to $87 before tip. Tail between my legs, I'd definitely go back. It's not a fancy night out, or even the best sushi around, but the overall experience was very positive! I recommend for all Japanese and...
