I was really excited when I moved to the Mahopac area to find a Homegoods store nearby. In the past few months I have spent more than $500 there in items to decorate my new home. Unfortunately today I had a very bad customer service experience that has made me rethink shopping there again in the future.
I came to the store to return a comforter set, I had bought two with the intentions of returning one once I saw them in my bedroom. I made sure to keep my receipt with the comforter so that the return would not be a problem. However, when I went to return the item, I was told that since I didn't have the original credit card used that I can only get store credit. Now I've shopped many places and have returned items where even though I have my credit card they did not even ask for it because they just use the information in their systems to credit the card used. The cashier consulted another cashier who was very aprupt and asked when I bought the item, and then was visibly dissappointed when she was told it was within the 30 day window for returns. I asked to speak to the manager and she suggested that I get the credit and then come back AGAIN with the card used to transfer that credit to my card. Now I'm out the $66 and the time/gas/effort to come back to the store again, not to mention if I do not have the store credit, the credit card I used, my husband with me (since it's his card), and the original receipt then they again could do nothing for me! None of the 3 employees offered any other solutions to this dilemna, I offered to get the CC numbers for them or to call the credit card company, but all they wanted to do was brush me off as quick as possible. What I can tell from this experience is that this particular set of customer service employees do not value me as a customer and I will rethink whereI purchase my home decor items in...

I had an absolutely infuriating experience at HomeGoods in Mohegan Lake thanks to the appallingly unprofessional behavior of the store manager a female woman of Asian decent. I tried to return a brand new item—with all original tickets attached and receipt. Instead of addressing my concern reasonably, this manager blatantly refused my return, insisting it was “illegal” to resell the item because the tag was coming off. Her excuse was absurd, but what made matters worse was her dismissive, condescending attitude. Despite several onlookers witnessing the situation and sharing my frustration, she remained stubborn and unapologetically rude. I left the store feeling utterly disrespected by someone who clearly lacks any sense of proper customer service. HomeGoods seriously needs to re-evaluate how they train their management—this level of incompetence is unacceptable- And if what she said is true, they need to train their employees to remove items that cannot be returned from the shelves. Take a look at the picture...
Read moreI haven’t been to HomeGoods in years since they closed the location in Mahopac. I stopped in on a whim today and was thoroughly impressed with the size of the store, the general organization, and just the sheer amount of selection.
HomeGoods is a wonderful store to add some personality to your home. They have items that are unique enough and represent various aesthetics, but won’t go out of style soon. And it’s also great to see some of your more “basic” items (kitchenware, towels, etc) at lower costs than your average retailer.
If you’re in the area on a lazy Sunday, stop in and do some window (or real) shopping—you’ll kill time and...
