I really love this mall! The store selection is good, and also gives good concepts like turning a vacant space into a street wing or turning a former Burlington into a Boscov's. However, I hate the rumors about this mall and it's area. Jordan Butler's review pretty sums it up, they've never felt uncomfortable or unseated and how social media makes it seem like a crime hell-hole, and I'm here to debunk all the negative things.
Areas too "ghetto": I've seen a couple of people say that they don't go to this mall since it's too ghetto, which is false. I've been in the Greece area for the majority of my life and I've never experienced Greece as poor. While they aren't rich, this doesn't make them poor. It's about the middle.
Crimes: This reason is the major one why people say to go to Eastview since it better, which in my opinion, both are about equal, are the crimes that happened. First thing, the teen fighting the day after Christmas. This fighting happened in 2020, 2023 and 2024. 1st thing to point out: It isn't just Greece Ridge who got this attack, Walden Galleria in Buffalo also got this attack. I gotta mention Wilmorite (owner of this mall) did responsible action against the people who did the fighting, same with the 2nd crime, the Dubai Jewelry robbery. This event is less known then the fighting, it's just 3 people robbing a jewelry place. From a review made by Josh Jones, he tries to twist the narrative into that Greece Ridge is a place for crime. Which if it was, it wouldn't attract Boscov's or Apple Cinemas.
Vacancies: All though Macy's and Jim's left the mall, there's some reasons I have to give to both. Macy's left due to the company investing into it's other locations. Remember, it wasn't just Greece Ridge, it was multiple other malls. Second is Wilmorite making Jim's at the Mall leave the mall for the Boscov's. Which if you don't know, Boscov's is taking the former Burlington and the whole hallway facing it. The thing is, Jim's was allowed to relocate but decided not to. It's unknown if Jim's will ever come back, but there was a win-win with the employees at Jim's. The employees now have a job as Boscov's once they open. EDIT: Only thing I've noticed is that there's only at most 10 vacancies, majority near the former Sears.
In Conclusion, the rumors are twisted narratives, and Greece Ridge is a safe and good mall. It's also worth to mention that reviews with Marketplace Mall in them are good reviews while ones with Eastview Mall or just Eastview are low rated ones.
EDIT 2: I have notice that the mall's traffic does seem pretty good, only times I've seen it not really do well are in the Apple Cinemas wing and the Dick's Sporting Goods wing (but to be fair, that is blocked off...
Read moreI’m from Buffalo where all we pretty much have is the Walden Galleria and Niagara Falls Outlets left as far as malls go - this was my first time at this mall in Rochester and it was refreshing in this era of “dying malls” to see a mall with such a great selection/variety of stores and food options. Clean and safe. Perfect amount of stores and restaurants. Jim’s Diner was great and nice to see a restaurant like this in a mall that isn’t a huge chain. Love Red Robin though too so I’d hit them up next time. Two of my favorite stores Zumiez and Express are also there so that made me happy, also I respect that there are 2 pretzel options here - Auntie Anne’s and Pretzelmaker.
Nice to see Macy’s, JCP, and Dick’s seem to be doing well here but I think this mall is smart to have stores like Marshall’s and Burlington in it too as draws to the rest of the mall because those are stores that always have business and you don’t typically see them in malls. Looks like there was a recently closed movie theater but a new one is opening next year. Could use a H&M store and a Vans or Pac Sun, otherwise was a great day and mall...
Read moreGot my 3 little kids ready to see Santa and we walked up at 6:50 pm on the dot, There was approx. 2- 3 families in line and the line was roped off. I asked when they closed and she said, "now". This was my only day off and I asked if we can see santa, no one else was even around or trying to see santa too. The girl employee was adamant on being closed. I was so upset that my kids were so disappointed. I told her it was my only day off and I went through a lot to get there, she didn't care. ITS A CHILDS EVENT to see santa, WHY BE SO NASTY to wait 2-3 more minutes???? I'm a nurse, I work over by hours, don't even get to the bathroom, skip breaks and meals, run until my feet are in pain. And the santa cashier girl can't give 2-3 minutes for a couple kids to tell santa what they wanted. We didn't even need pictures taken. My 6 year old son asked me "is there going to be any presents because we couldn't see santa?" I told him, Ill find a way to tell santa. Nasty...
