Came in super excited to finally try this place tonight. However…everything just felt very salty and oily.
The Popcorn chicken was under-battered and thus looked gray like boiled chicken thighs that happened to have a gritty looking coating and came out with the sheen of oil. We had to blot and put napkins on the plate, underneath the chicken.
The Tempura shrimp in the Tonkotsu Shouyu ramen tasted of oil and was overbattered. There was more batter than shrimp, and while not soggy it was definitely doughy. I could see the marks from the shrimp resting on the bottom of the fryer basket.
The frying oil was not hot enough and maybe the tempura batter wasn’t cold enough either.
The Tonkotsu and the Sapphoro miso broths were both so salty - as if they’d over-reduced in the stove over the course of the day. To partake in the slurp challenge for something free on your next visit would cause serious harm to your health with this level of sodium. The best part of the Sapporo miso was the corn because it was sweet and so had a contrasting flavor. The eggs were also very good, while the chashu was okay. It was thin but the overwhelming grease and salt of everything else just made it feel one note. It felt like salt on top of salt on top of salt with a good dose of oil.
On the other hand the service was excellent - just attentive enough and kind, water refilled promptly, etc. The decor and atmosphere looked nice but the first floor booths design makes it louder than open booths. People think they’re in a private room but they’re not. The table behind me was screaming as people do these days and I couldn’t hear my dinner companion speaking, so we ate mostly silent.
We did try to mention to the staff that it was salty and oily when leaving, but honestly the reviews make me wonder what other ramen people have been eating to rate it so highly. Or was it just...
Read moreI was very excited to try this place and my actual experience here could not have been worse.
We arrived at 6:30 this past Sunday and I added my name to the waitlist for 2 people and we were 8 tables away from being seated. We waited almost 50 minutes, inside the restaurant and directly next to the host stand, for the entire time. The 2 seaters in the honeycomb section had 2-3 empty tables at any time. During this time other groups would come in and tell the host they had received a text their table was ready only for the host to say it would still be 10-20 minutes to be seated.
We asked the hostess if everything was ok/if we would be seated soon as it was approaching an hour wait. She tells us it will be another 15-20 minutes as the "kitchen is just so backed up right now that we aren't seating anyone" I said I wish they would have told us that the kitchen was backed up as again, we had literally been 2 feet from the host stand at all time. It would have been courteous for them to tell us they were no longer seating due to a backup in the kitchen. We move back a few feet to continue to wait and the host CANCELS my waitlist. We go back up to ask what's going on only to be told "oh...I thought you said you wanted to cancel...I can put you back but it will be another 30 minutes..." I felt as if we were being kicked out. There was no way we were going to wait another 30 minutes, and even if we had been seated I'm sure the food would have taken forever to come out anyway. We went over to Elise Lane around the corner and we were sat right away and the entire waitstaff worked as a team to make it a great night. So thanks I guess for helping me find an actual good...
Read moreFirst visit. Atmosphere was beautiful. Greeter wasn’t super engaging Server was nice. Polite. But inexperienced and it showed. Not a dig but… Food quality was good. Taste and presentation fine. Ordered tonkatsu ramen and a chicken omurice. Chicken was UNDERCOOKED. Still a little pink in 30% of the breast. Flavor was good though. Green tea pudding was quite good
We ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer. We were informed the app would take around 13 min( pan fried gyoza). Severe brought out the ramen. Nothing else. Is this normal in ramen joints ? I had to wait to eat until my dining partner received her food causing mine to get cold-ish
Oh. And the dumplings never arrived 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ When asked the server stated that the ticker wasn’t submitted ( yet we got everything else …. Seems odd)
The manager was quite obviously new to his position, made clear by having a staff meeting in the MIDDLE of the restaurant and wasn’t very nice about it either. (That stuff should be done out of ear shot of customers, no?) And during their meeting the ENTIRE staff ignored the dining room where other customers were eating or waiting to eat and thereby we had to wait several minutes to get our check.
I know this place is new but a LOT of kinks need to be ironed out.
I had the app. Wanted to pay with the app bc I wanted the points and was unable to use the app.
I will say the fried purple sweet potatoes were AWESOME!!!!
Regardless. I’ll give it one more go and see what improves.
Feel free to reach out if you want...
