We have been coming for years to Lake Placid area both in the summer times as well as winter. We always rented boats from This place in the past. however, after today’s experience, this is our last one. Our family of four came to rent one canoe and one motorboat. My 12 year-old and myself got into the motorboat. Not even a full minute on a water, our motor came off from the edge of the boat. luckily, my 12 year-old caught it before it fell in a lake. The attendant who was on a dock, came and helped us get the boat back onto the dock. I couldn’t fathom that I even have to ask for a refund because of what happened. However, when I said now, I would like some money back because I’m not going back in the water, I was very politely said unfortunately no refund. The attendant was nothing but super professional and pleasant. on my request, she connected me with the owner who was way less than that. After listening to the details of the fiasco, he told me that apparently when the motor is not attached safely to the boat - that does not constitute a broken boat. And no, I would not get any refunds. When I proceeded to raise counter arguments, he said fine, take 20 bucks or leave it. That’s all you’re gonna get. I was stunned and shocked by complete lack of any customer service from The owner himself. Rude and unprofessional! There are plenty other places around the area with way better customer service for rentals . Will never come...
Read moreUnnecessarily rude and unprofessional. The lifeguards at the beach gave us a list of rental companies and we called this company and asked if they had a paddle boat for two adults and two children age four and six. They said yes they did so we said we were on our way. When we got there, we were told there could be only three people on a boat. We said we had called and specifically asked about our situation and said we had four people, with the two little kids, and the woman was very nice and said it would be okay since we had called and were told it would be okay but that it was usually only three people (we were simply relaying what we were told on the phone). Our first paddle boat was broken and we had to return to switch, which was not a big deal, but as we were loaded into the second paddle boat, the seeming owner came out and was telling the worker and us that there could never be more than three and we had to get back out and only three of us could go.
We told him we had called and asked about our family, which he pretended to deny. Even though we called and said exactly what we were looking for, and even though they said they had a boat for us, we roll with the punches and would have understood that it was a possible miscommunication and figured out a plan. Instead, the guy was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. Thus, I'm taking time on family vacation to write my first google review to share...
Read moreI highly recommend going with a different boat rental company- perhaps one that is more understanding of parents with young children. My husband and I rented 2 paddle boats for an hour (a total of $60, which seems a bit steep but whatever). He took our 3 year old son and I loaded up our 1.5 year old daughter to go with me. I’m also 7 months pregnant. As soon as we backed out of the dock, my daughter began screaming to get off. Realizing she was not going to be reasonable, I went back to the dock. Total of maybe 3 minutes out. I apologized and asked for a possible refund. The young girl was so kind but called her boss and her boss said no refunds were available, even though it was less than 5 minutes of boating. Instead, they offered we come back tomorrow and try again, which was not something we planned to do with our last day in the area. I’d recommend for any families with young kids to look for another company...
