The village of Lake Placid sits right on Mirror Lake. This is where the activity happens year-round, this is the focal point of the entire community. It will be obvious at first sight. The 124-acre lake is the anchor of the entire community.
In Lake Placid, there are two lakes-
Mirror Lake from which the Inn takes its name, and Lake Placid Lake where the village derives its name.
It begins with size – Mirror Lake is much smaller. Walking Its’ perimeter is only 2.75 miles, while there is no walking around Lake Placid. the lake which you see around Main Street- that is a mirror lake.
Mirror Lake: no motorized vessels are allowed, It’s very calm. it’s kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders, a swimmer here and there, and a few fishermen. On the opposite end of Mirror Lake Inn is the town and village beach.
in the summer- In the warmer months you'll see joggers making their way around the 2.7-mile route. It's a great path for walking and biking, also there is a small beach on the side, facing Inn. located at the south side of the lake, a great spot for kids also saw a lifeguard and public restroom - great fun it is! Though only opens in summer though (also this beach is known as Lake placid beach)
but in winter- the lake freezes over. With ice that's consistently a foot thick, Mirror Lake becomes a prime winter sports destination. From the two-mile-long ice track to pond hockey, and a toboggan chute, Mirror Lake becomes one of the busiest spots in Lake Placid during the winter months.
Visiting the lake placid- there is no fixed path, we googled 'Lake Placid boat riding' and reached that spot hoping there will be a place to admire the lake but nope, it was a small spot, that’s it. It’s not very popular like its sister lake (Mirror Lake)
Parking: Just near to Olympic Center or mirror lake, there is a municipal parking area, of course on busy days, it's hard to get a spot, but I would say, wait there and grab a spot because it's damn cheap...!
50 cents per hour. on the street side, it's $2/hr (that is also cheap) but 50 cents /hr. is dirt cheap. and after 6 it was free...
Read moreA very nice little park. I go there to relax, sometimes have a picnic lunch on a bench or table. Love to watch the birds and fisherman on the dock. I go off season so it is normally quiet and not that busy. On the edge of the park are tennis courts and a nice kids playground. You could also add this as a resting spot while walking the two plus miles around Mirror Lake. There's nothing wrong with taking a relaxing scenic break while exercising. I heard that they received money to expand the beach, I know from previous experiences expand doesn't mean improve. If you take away it's quaintness you take away it's quality. Stop and see it when the charm is...
