Petco — Local services in Town of Riverhead

First of all, the only reason I went to petco other than my normal groomers was because the lady quoted me $40 for a full bath and trim for my chihuahua. We get there and the staff were not very welcoming, which was fine I thought maybe a busy time, I dropped her off at 2:30 PM, it was 5:15 PM and I thought what the heck, it’s been THREE HOURS. I go in and ask why it’s taking so long, if she’s almost done, they very rudely tell me 15 more minutes, I said okay. They said they would CALL ME when she was done, I ended up waiting about 45 more minutes before I went back in and asked about her, they said she was done and her paperwork has been sitting at the desk! It was definitely NOT $40, it turned out to be $75, which I could’ve paid ALOT LESS for GOOD SERVICE AND A BETTER HAIRCUT. Her hair is so choppy. I will DEFINITELY be sticking to BESTFRIENDS GROOMING in Calverton, they are so welcoming and are done in an hour and a half AND give her a cute bow when she is finished. All staff members here are awesome. My dog Apollo and I visit almost weekly, and everyone always greets him. Everyone is always willing to help if needed.

Large inventory selection available, and high quality products. I am able to get everything I need for my dog here and not have to visit any other stores. Store is always clean and shelves well stocked.

Grooming salon is also excellent. I have never had a bad experience there in the 4 years I have used them. Fast service and my dog is well taken care of. They're always happy to see him which makes me feel great leaving him there.

Overall it usually is a good experience. My last time there 10/19 was concerning because the cashier handed me my change without so much as telling me how much it was. I am old school and was taught to count the customers change back. I understand it is no longer required, which is a real shame because it makes the store look unconcerned about the customer and the cashier seem in uneducated. Yesterday the when I took the time to count my change, holding up the line, he looked at me as if to say you can go now, I told him I'm just counting my change because you didn't tell me how much it was. He shrugged his shoulders and continued to ring up the next customer. Not a good look...
