Good enough to go back the second day! This is a pretty clean little place, definitely not a corporate joint as it looks like someone actually cares about it. The front was very neat and tidy both days, all the way down to the arrangement of the chip bags. The younger and older gentlemen that worked my orders both days were smiling and genuinely friendly, something I do not find much of on these trips to NY. The service was very fast for cooked to order. I only had bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches with an OJ each day so my menu experience here is a bit limited. But, from what’s I had, the food was good, and fresh. The bagels were not too soft, nor too hard, they had just the right amount of “chew” to them. While there may be better bagels shops in the area, this one is still worth a visit. At least, for takeout. The dining area was a tad too cold for comfort both days. Being that I will shovel snow in shorts and a tee and do not even have a real jacket in my suitcase for this trip, that is saying something! Also the first day there was a HUGE chunk of pulp in my OJ, no issues with that today though. It was still delicious, and I do like the pulp, just not in chunks bigger than a golf ball! Also, there was a bit of a contentious interaction between the younger man and lady behind the counter today; it was noticeable from the ordering line. I think the meat and cheese could be a bit better quality. This is not to say they are bad, but if they once had Board’s Head, they made a mistake in moving away from it. So these things combined cost a star, but they really are minor nit-picks. Surely, you will see me grabbing bacon sammie’s the next time I draw the short straw and...
Read moreUnfortunately the new owners have ruined what was once an icon of Riverhead. They got rid of Boars Head products which shows cost cutting. What was once staffed by town high schoolers is now all friends and family of the owner and the local hometown service has gone with it. No more smiles. Was in waiting for my order when a customer came back to counter saying their order was incorrect. The employee said “well I can’t fix it now what do you want me to do?”. I don’t know maybe make the correct order?! The bagel store that focused on bagels and deli now has tons of random items on menu, clearly not made in store. A menu of a thousand items means a thousand items done mediocre than a few items done really well. The interior decor has been taken down and now looks so empty and boring. Prices have increased but quality, taste, and service have all plummeted. This used to be a guaranteed stop every time I visited my hometown and now I won’t even...
Read moreFigured I’d give this place another shot after new ownership took over. Went and ordered a ham and Swiss on a roll for lunch, with lettuce mayo and tomato.
Service was fine, manager had to call his worker up off his phone to make the sandwich. They use thick pre-sliced ham, and pre-sliced cheese. Full leaf lettuce instead of shredded.
Very average sandwich. Nothing to write home about. Good amount of meat but disappointing that it isn’t sliced to order.
Shredded lettuce is far superior for any sandwich, so also disappointed in the huge leaves of romaine.
Total came to over $13 (extra charge to use a credit card). Did not include any side salad or drink.
The delis in the Riverhead area are disappointing for the most part. Appreciate the kind service here, but will not be returning.
This place is in desperate need of a renovation. Dirty cabinet and swinging doors behind the counter. Looked relatively clean...
