I shop here all the time, too frequently. Unfortunately, prices as of late have skyrocketed and things with stains and rips are also priced way too high. A shirt with a stain right on the front placket for $7??! A consignment shop wouldnât even sell that at all due to the stain, never mind for $7. Anyway, they know me to be a regular shopper who often buys things at full price (not that that should matter!) but I decided to ask if they could do anything better on the shirt and they gave me the run around for several min, basically saying yeah maybe they didnât see the stain, before finally saying they wouldn't budge, come back at the end of the month when itâll be half off. LOL. This logic makes no sense. They would rather overprice to start and then have all this stuff sitting around all month than price a couple dollars lower and sell it more quickly. Think about it - If their prices were just a tad lower to begin with, theyâd actually make more money selling more things at higher prices! So if you price this stained shirt at $7, it sits around for a month before it gets marked down to $3.50 and hopefully sells. If it doesnât sell, thatâs work it took to process it and a month sitting around. But I would have paid $4-5 TODAY to take it off their hands. Iâm here a lot but I also work a lot and donât have every day off to stop in to see if things are on sale yet. The only other time I asked for a discount was for school supplies - I teach art. And that was a "no" also. Itâs just another sour experience in a chain of them with this place. The for-profit thrift store in Tahoe City has much better customer service, values good, regular customers and shows it.
Positives: new location is a much better...
Read moreupdate; 2024 Hospice still has not dropped prices and the money goes to the hospital! My old review; I have shopped at Hospice for over 20 years. It use to be run by nice old ladies who didn't mark stuff up at retail prices. Hospice was about SERVING THE COMMUNITY!!! Now prices are insane. Are they marketing to Google millionaires!??? ( even tho many items stained, cracked and worn out) Also Hospice is always full and I can never donate. I think it is because prices are too high and stuff doesn't move. I went in there 2 weeks later and the over priced stuff still sitting there. I guess I will be donating to thriftstore in Kings Beach or Incline. I saw a blanket I wanted and the hospice girl was very rude. It was not priced and I wanted to buy it. But she would not price it and told me to come back in 2 days! It's because they want to go online and get pricing. It made me walk out....
Read moreHave shopped here for many years and always find awesome treasures. However I was really saddened and disappointed when I donated dishes here a little while ago - they proceeded to immediately smash almost the entire set in the garbage! I was still in the store shopping around when I heard the racket. I was so surprised I stuck my head into the back and sure enough it was the box I'd just brought in. I know they are short on space, but they could have just refused the donation if the dishes weren't up to their standards. Their dumpster is always full of clothes and goods that don't meet their standards. What a waste! I will be taking my donations to Reno...
