If you're visiting DC, it's a good starting point to tour the Mall & Capitol grounds. Usually it is less busy than Union Station or Navy memorial. DC police memorial is just above the station and definitely worth a visit. Capital One arena is also 10 minutes walk. 2 exits could be a little confusing, but just read signs posted near lower level escalators. You will need exit to DC courthouse.

Me and my dad went to this station today when we realised that I had forgotten my SmarTrip card. No big deal right? One person can pay and pass it back and the other pays. I go first and I go through the gates no problem, but when it comes the time for my dad to pay, it declined. So we both go over to the station manager and tell him what happened. He was very rude about it and forced my dad to buy another card and wouldn't let me go through the gates to maybe go back and get my card. We are tourists to DC so we didn't know what the payment systems are like, we normally go to London and this always works, it's not like we're getting a free ride, we're paying twice which means 2 rides so I don't know why he was so rude about it. The escalators were under repair when we visited and information about alternative entry ways were scant at best. When we finally found an elevator, the buttons didn't light up so we didn't know if it was under repair too. It was actually working, but we stood there for about a minute before things...
