Luxurious, excellent customer service, sheer perfection--those are the phrases which come to mind when I think of Michael Thomas Clothiers.
I went in to get a custom outfit made for my 40th birthday party, and I was delighted with their vast selection of fabrics and colors for suits and shirts. As this was my first experience with bespoke garments, I was a bit intimidated. Mike was extremely patient with me as I pored over binder after binder to find THE perfect shirt. He spent two hours with me, discussed all the options, listened to my preferences, and made helpful, insightful suggestions--I never knew there were so many details that could enhance an outfit. I ended up buying four shirts and a suit!
When I went in for my first fitting, Mike remembered that my beverage of choice was Coke and had a chilled Coke waiting for me upon my arrival. I was amazed at how well the suit jacket and pants fit to a tee. Tom remarked that I was tearing up as I looked in the mirror; he was right--I had never had clothes fit so well! The jacket sleeves were a little short, and they assured me their tailor would make the necessary adjustments within a week. Two of the shirts fit perfectly, while two of them needed slight alterations.
I happened to see some new fabric samples and saw a color that would match one of the shirts even better than the black suit I had originally purchased. I decided to splurge and buy another suit in that color, thrilled that I had now found THE PERFECT OUTFIT for my birthday party!
As promised, the alterations were done in less than a week, and when I went in for the second fitting today, the suit jacket and the two shirts fit me so well I didn't want to take them off. The clothes are worth every penny, for the care and attention in their production are evident.
I was impressed with the quality of the clothing and the customer service I received. A few days after my first visit, I received a handwritten card from Mike, thanking me for my business. The fact that he took the time to WRITE a note won me over. Michael Thomas Clothiers definitely has a customer for life! Thanks to the expert fashion advice I received from Mike, Tom, Lori, and Kristen, I have slowly transformed my wardrobe--four suits, sixteen shirts, and numerous ties later, I still love coming back to pick out...
Read moreSTOP YOUR SEARCH! I've been looking at several custom clothiers in the DC area, (to be fair, I haven't tried them all) but this place takes the cake. I went in and was greeted warmly by Michael who helped me in selecting my suits and shirts, (They have a great deal, buy 5 get the 6th free!) He was genuinely interested in what I was looking for, and was able to guide me to what I needed. His father Thomas arrived and although he was assisting another customer came over to greet me, and made me feel welcome!
I will say that as far as styling options, you can get it almost anywhere, but the people at MTC know how to put it together. If you aren't sure of something, they can easily help you design something and won't mind doing so.
One thing I wish I didn't have to say about other clothiers is how I was treated. Being a person of color, when I visited other clothiers, I was met with a lot of blank stares, and at one place straight up IGNORED when I asked for assistance in purchasing a few suits. At one place specifically, I was told "This isn't for you, there's a Men's Wearhouse not too far from here". Well, I'm happy to say that place wasn't for me because I will not be treated that way! Due to their ignorance, they missed out on a pretty significant purchase. At MTC, NONE of this attitude was present, and interaction was very natural and sincere, which makes for repeat business, and tons of referrals.
I will post an update when I get my suits and shirts, in the mean time, go visit MTC today, you'll be...
Read moreThe best custom bespoke suits and shirts in the Washington D.C. area. I have been going to Michael Thomas Clothiers for over 10 years, and I have been consistently impressed. They have a wide selection of fabrics that include Loro Piana and Zegna, or more modest fabrics if you don't want to break the bank. The suit linings are not fused (glued) like off-the-rack and some "made to measure" suits. Everything is sewn by hand. There is felt lining under the collar. The sleeves have functioning buttons. You can choose a patterned or colorful lining. Your name is sewn above the inside pocket. The shirt fabric selection is as diverse as the suit materials. You can choose a tapered or regular cut that will match your neck, chest, waist, etc. You will also choose the type of collar, breast pocket or none, french cuff or regular, the style and location of your monogram, and they will even make the left cuff slightly larger to accommodate a bigger watch. Most importantly, the shirts fit perfectly and don't have a ton of excess fabric around the mid-section. Lastly, if you choose to invest in a tuxedo, have it custom made by Michael Thomas Clothiers. It will be classic or you can add some personality, it will fit great, and you will look ten times better for your most...
