Update:
Weeks later and Iâm still getting calls and e-mails stating that I owe money. And I have no idea where this magical number of $459 came from being that I was only a member for one month and paid that one month off before I cancelled my membership all together. This place is really a scam! Be careful.
I really wanted Pilates to be my thing. Sadly, my experience here ruined it.
I was quickly roped into a 3 month membership (it all happened over text), essentially my card was charged even before I received the contract or any information about the schedule.
As soon as I got the Club Pilates app (which I recommend you do before committing to a membership simply to just look at class times and availability), I found that many of the classes that worked for my schedule were overbooked, waitlisted with sometimes over 10 people! This whole approach causes people with unlimited memberships to book their classes far in advance to secure spots in their preferred class times/with their preferred instructors⊠so even classes 2 weeks from now are likely over booked. I called the studio and was told that people cancel last minute and classes become available. Itâs hugely inconvenient for me to find out last minute if Iâm attending a class. Also, when spots do open up, you automatically get placed into the class class if youâre next on the waitlist and if you cancel within a 12 hour window, you get charged a cancellation fee.
Now for the instructors... Iâll start by saying most of Lizaâs classes are overbooked because she truly is a good instructor and you actually feel like you get a workout in her classes. Coach O and Sara are both really sweet and I had pleasant experiences in their classes.
I donât prefer Claudiaâs style of instructing. Her lack of patience coupled with her slightly insulting remarks eventually made me stop going to her classes altogether. She would constantly call me out by saying condescending things like âyou canât make your leg straighter?â⊠I donât prefer to learn that way.
I attended a few of Carolineâs classes. Sheâs a decent instructor but I donât find her to be very professional. I attended one of her level 2 classes (partly because it was one of the only classes that wasnât overbooked that weekend and also, the level 1 and 1.5 classes just werenât challenging enough for me; I have experience with Pilates). I was happy that this class was challenging because thatâs honestly what I was looking for with Pilates. At the end of class, Caroline came up to me and rudely told me that I wasnât allowed to attend a level 2 class. She stated I needed to take 25 level 1.5 classes - no one told me this and it was not listed anywhere on the app âin bold lettersâ as she condescendingly said. On the app, it says âby instructor approvalâ which I thought I had because I was approved for the class. I understand that for safety purposes and the progression of the class, it was in my best interest to have taken more classes but I honestly didnât feel as though I was significantly behind others the way she implied. She could have handled that better. I was so turned off by her and everything else that I experienced at this location in just a month that I knew I had to cancel immediately.
Iâll tell you this, be very careful when committing to a membership here. The managers are largely inaccessible after normal working hours and itâs a headache to cancel your membership (as stated in many other...
Read moreBeautiful location by the water. It was my first time, I was so excited and I walked in smiling only to be met by a stone faced front desk lady with an attitude. She did not say hello and glared at me like I was lost and just stumbled into the studio to waste time. The studio is semi-open and I was early to my class. While I can appreciate that maybe we couldnât quite carry a convo, basic manners were not observed by her. She barely spoke, silently checked me in and motioned for me to sit in a corner while the current class continued. I was annoyed by the interaction but kept it moving because no power of hell, no scheme of man!
On my way out, I happened to walk into a conversation she was having with yet another Black woman. She was so condescending that I stopped to listen. The woman gave desk lady a piece of her mind and I wanted to applaud. It confirmed/validated my own experience. I walked the woman out and shared my experience from earlier and she said desk lady is always like that. Just be mindful and donât let her disrupt your zen.
Outside of that, the studio is very nice and the participants are also lovely. I was nervously chatting with a few to get a feel and everyone shared positive experiences. All body types are present, and a diversity of women. I love it!
Note - rookie mistake: there are no secure lockers so be mindful of your belongings. Leave or carry a small bag that you can place next to you.
My class itself was a level 1 with Helen, who was so cute in her Yeezyâs lol. She was very clear, patient and provided correction. The pace is slow but very focused/intense at times. I worked muscle groups I never felt before and I would like to get better. Also for my yoni health girlies, some of her moves focused on pelvic floor movement which I deeply appreciate. You can go at your own pace too. I took my time to perfect, learn the terms/moves and observe the room.
I will absolutely book again. Just ignore front desk lady; she seems genuinely bored and you are not...
Read moreReally great studio and wonderful staff. I joined about a year ago and have enjoyed every single class so much so that I take back-to-back classes to get the most core exercises I can. The place is super clean and everyone is so friendly and greats you using your name when you walk in the door. I really would like to take a second to tell everyone reading my review that during this whole Corona 19 mess this studio has doubled down on cleanliness. You walk in the door wearing your mask, one by one six feet apart and your temperature is taken and you're given a squirt of hand sanitizer. Your shoes go in one area and your pocketbook, sweater, etc. in another. ALL the reformers are sprayed with disinfectant and wiped down and the hand held UVA light wand goes over all equipment and then you stretch out on the reformer. Once class is over (with 8 not 12 people as everyone is spaced more than 6 feet apart) the clients are given spray bottles and a clean, thick cloth to clean the reformer and equipment used during the class. Then we walk out one by one again as we did in the beginning. After we leave there is 15 minutes between classes where the instructor cleans AGAIN and uses the UVA wand AGAIN. Balls and circle rings go into a special bin for special cleaning. It's unbelievable the precautions Club Pilates is taking so everyone is from safe Covid and everyone can mentally get into their exercises rather than worrying if everything you touch is clean and disinfected. I'm sorta a nut on this Covid stuff since I am 69 years old and a prime age to catch it but I have zero fears or concerns when I walk into the studio. ZERO! The studio opened about a month ago and I go 5 days a week and am totally comfortable with everything they do. It's a fun place to get exercise and meet new people. After a while everybody is like one big family. Don't hesitate to come and really improve your body and clear your head! . Lynn...
