machines were poorly maintained (3 of the 5 cabs i tried had major mechanical defects, ddr cab had non-standard bar height). if you're not here for pinball the selection is quite weak as well. the pinball players seemed to be having a good time but if you're not here for pinball i can't recommend
edit: responding to the post from the owners:
the bar seemed short to me, granted, being quite tall i'm very sensitive to short bars and used to machines with higher bars. i didn't have a ruler on me so it's very possible i was wrong here.
i played a light gun game (outnumbered) where the slide was broken on the p2 slide and occasionally unresponsive triggers. MvC2 had an unplayably sticky/misaligned joystick which made doing any inputs impossible. the tank game had controls that were completely messed up: you would accelerate forwards while doing nothing and reverse by stepping on the gas, which are not the intended controls. to be honest i didn't tell the front desk because when an arcade has 1 broken machine i assume they'll fix it but when they have 3 broken i assume they do not care.
i recognize that what makes a game selection good or bad is very subjective but while there were games from a number of genres the ones i played (especially ones i could not find at other arcades) i did not particularly enjoy, partly due to aforementioned maintenance issues, partly due to not being fun and being more focused on munching quarters. if you want to know what i would prefer to see in an arcade i would like to see more rhythm games than an old ddr cab, better light gun games, and fighting games newer than mvc2. i recognize that the arcade has a retro focus but i am not interested in it and about a third of the floor space was...
First off I will say this. Arcades are all cool, any chance you can get out and enjoy old school games like pinball or double shot I am all for that. My review is based upon the service that I had while in there. So I roll in at 6:05 on a Monday night, not knowing this place was even there I had a Groupon to use. Got to the counter and let the person working know I had a Groupon, without hesitation tells me I can’t use it. I ask him why and he states with less than an hour before close he can’t give me that many tokens because I won’t be able to use them in time. I have three other people with me and assure him we will be all wrapped up well before closing time at 7:00 PM. Still tells me can’t do it. So I get he is more than likely just doing what he has been told but the manner in which he spoke and acting was so off putting. So I asked what I could do and he says “well you can buy some tokens I just can’t give you the 80” so I think I buy like 40 or something I can’t remember, but I had already made the long drive out there and didn’t want to let down my kids. Well guess what...6:30 hits and we are all out of tokens, which to me was not shocking but rather than trying to rude about I just took off. I don’t think I will ever come back, mostly based off how the person treated me. I hope they can get some people to work there that can...
Read more(Talking about rythm games) Although had pretty good machines, they were expensive. I'm talking about the rhythm machines because I didn't try anything other than that. (ddr, and stepmaniax).
Although the stepmaniax was in much better condition than the one in Nickel City, it was 4 times the price for the same amount, 2 songs. (1$, compared to $0.25) Plus, even though it was in good condition, it still had some of the same problems as the one in significantly worse condition at nickel city. Maybe it was just because I wasn't as familiar with the machine, but some of the notes were randomly activating and I feel the sensitivity was too high. When I tried to double hit notes it thought I was just holding them. I could be just bad at the game but I feel I'm getting at least decent at it.
This place really could use a fan by the stepmaniax aswell. I was sweating the whole time.
The DDR machine didn't work properly and was in very bad shape, and I couldn't change the note speed because the machine was set to Japanese. The notes were smashed in and I couldn't tell what was going on
Edit: hello yes, thank you for the insight and I understand a little bit better now. Sorry for dunking, and I should have told the person working there. Thank you for paying attention and fixing the issues. If I have problems the next time I go...
