If you can't get a 94% or better on an FAA exam after using Sheppard Air's study software, then you might need to rethink your career choice.
The software is kinda outdated and unnecessarily verbose in its "checklists" (not very similar to "plane language") but it's almost in an endearing way. Kinda feels like some 60-70 year old guy made this as a passion project, talking in long streams of thought, and never updated the setup or writing. The software works fine though. Other than that, the methodology is fantastic and well worth the moderate price. I've had to use their 24/7 support the night before an exam and it was crucial to getting my software up to date with the latest questions.
Bear in mind that this program is for review or "top off" as they put it. It's an excellent tool for rote memorization, and the question explanations are thorough and accurate, but it's not a replacement for studying the actual content...
Read moreI should not have wasted my money on a Sheppard study course. After 40-years flying and more than 25 FAA knowledge exams, I should have stuck with what is flexible and works -- Gleim books. Instead I wasted time and money getting sucked in by industry hype about Sheppard products.
-- Clunky, 1980's "DOS-like" study interface with limited options to individualize for study style -- Rigid, surprisingly condescending study protocol did not work for me -- Buggy, time-consuming MacOS download. After multiple calls to Sheppard tech support, I had to disconnect from my WiFi network and tether to my cell phone to get it to work! User-hostile, unchangeable user name and password assigned by Sheppard -- no way to create memorable, user-friendly credentials -- Only accessible for twelve months. I bought it and should be able to refer to it for as long as I want. Equivalent to buying a book that...
Read moreThey're providing an invaluable service. No-frills software interface, but if you follow the prescribed study strategy it's impossible to fail an FAA knowledge exam. This isn't ground school, this is test prep. Learn the material elsewhere, and then cram for a week with the Sheppard method, pass your test with a percentage in the high 90s, and move on. The editorial comments within the app are fantastic - not infrequently, the multiple-choice answer being graded correct by PSI/FAA is flat out wrong, and Sheppard will note these instances and help the test-taker develop strategies to overcome the errors. App is updated frequently as test-takers submit new material they've seen in the question bank. You cannot buy the software online, but I've had pleasant interactions with Sheppard staff every time I've called...
