Would be zero stars if I could, thanks to the manager- employees should get 4 stars (they were nice)
I went to the Woburn Staples today with the anticipation of purchasing school supplies and organization items in advance of the Fall semester and my Staples rewards email included a 25% off Teacher Appreciation coupon for use 8/1-8/3.
I purposefully delayed my purchase of these needed items because this offer would be available soon. Unfortunately, my interaction with the store manager at the register would result in this complaint and my future business transactions being handled elsewhere When I entered the store, the associates were busy stocking and organizing and were all friendly and helpful. The store itself had all merchandise I was looking for and more with the one exception of the remote presenter I was in the market for.
I had approximately $75 worth of items in my cart when I approached the register and a friendly cashier looked up my rewards number and scanned all my items. He attempted to scan the Teacher Rewards coupon but when he did it came up as already used for $25 in nashua on 7/26. I had not used this coupon nor could I have since the coupon was not valid UNTIL AUGUST 1. The cashier told me that he summoned the manager who could override the problem. The manager arrived quickly (Bill or Rob- squirrely little man wearing an easy tech shirt) and immediately told me he could not override because I had used the coupon. I told him I had not and could not have used it- recall this coupon was not valid until August 1. He told me maybe someone hacked into my account, which I found ridiculous seeing as, if someone had hacked into my account, surely they would have used my stored credit card, not stolen my COUPON. Additionally, he told me "I will not override a coupon YOU (emphasis mine) already used" and that I would need to contact the rewards people.
He was rude, arrogant, and all but accused me of trying to steal from them for trying to use my reward. I am appalled at the behavior of this manager and his insistence that I was trying to take advantage. I am an educated woman, an educator in higher education, and a former retail employee. I did not deserve his attitude. As a loyal Staples customer since I was a child, I am at the point where I will take my business to Target or Amazon to avoid going to this store ever again. This manager let me walk out without completing my purchase. His arrogance is the ONLY reason I walked out of this store.
The story takes another twist.
Upon my departure, I called the Burlington store and the customer service rep who answered told me they would be happy to honor my reward and that there was a known error with this coupon. A known error!! Not 5 minutes before, the manager treated me like a thief, but there was a known problem with the coupon. Ten minutes later, I arrived at the Burlington store, found only some of the storage items I initially wanted, the pencil cases were 50% cheaper, and the presenter I was looking for.
Sadly, I couldn't find the things I needed and had found 30min before in Woburn. I was able to use my reward, but I am left with a very sore taste in my mouth after my interaction at the Woburn store. Staples management should be ashamed of themselves for allowing a manager to behave in such a manner and allow a customer to leave dissatisfied...
Read moreI ordered a chair while in the store. I needed it shipped to my office assembled which the manager on duty assured me would happen well guess what, it didn't so I called and talked to another manager who insulted me and told me there is no way we could assemble the chair and deliver it to you (assuming I lied) I informed him that I am disabled and cannot assemble the chair .....he went on to say we don't even have a manager on at that time so I don't know what your talking about...after work I went into the staples once again only to be demeaned and insulted once again by a third manager. I said nothing except can you have the chair delivered to my office...he ripped the receipt out of my hand walked way across the opposite side of the store (as I mentioned I am handicap so it took me a while to get there) he handed me back the receipt and told me he could refund the assembly fee. I then asked well is the chair here, he said he will go check....came back and said its here but not assembled...I said well when can it be assembled. He said it can't because I refunded all of your money. I said you've got to be kidding me, I just want the chair, and he walked away from me. I did say that was going to contact corporate and he waved his arm to me and kept walking away. This post does not even deserve a 1 rating as it is the most negative, insulting, demeaning experience I...
Read moreYesterday I returned an item valued at $40 but did not have the receipt on me. I was told by the cashier that because I did not have a receipt, they would only be able to give me store credit. I accepted. Today, when I went to use the store credit card, there was only $19 dollars on the card. When I asked why, I was told that they did not give me a full refund of store credit on the card because I did not have the receipt. I was NOT informed of this before accepting the store credit card. When I spoke with the manager, Mike, he was incredibly rude and said there was nothing he could do since we already agreed. The item I bought is still on the sales floor being sold at $40 dollars as well, so it was not due to it being on sales. As someone who works retail, I know this was absolutely against regular practice and policy because I was not informed of the price difference that would be returned to me ahead of time. While I don't care too much for the money lost, I am incredibly furious at the tone and way I was spoken to by Mike. I would NOT recommend going to this store, terrible...
