Disappointed Return – Dalgety 2.0 Public House (Visited Today)
I came back to Dalgety 2.0 because of a great memory—last time I visited with my family, the steak was beautifully cooked and the aroma was unforgettable. But today’s experience was a complete letdown.
The steak looked like it was cooked with zero care, as if the chef just wanted to finish quickly and go home. It was barely seared, pale inside, and had no golden-brown crust—just a piece of meat with the blood drained, thrown on a pan. It didn’t even resemble a proper steak.
The chips? Mostly leftovers, with a few freshly fried ones mixed in. The salad was half the usual portion. Honestly, it felt like they scraped together whatever was left in the kitchen.
I can’t believe how careless the food was. If you’re reading this, think twice before coming here. Buying a steak from the supermarket and cooking it yourself would taste a hundred times better than what I had today Follow-up to My Previous Review – Dalgety 2.0 Public House (Visited on Sunday at 7PM)
This is a continuation of the review I posted yesterday. I had returned to Dalgety 2.0 with my family, hoping to relive the great experience we had during our first visit. Sadly, what we encountered this time was the complete opposite.
We arrived at 7PM—still two full hours before closing—but the atmosphere felt like the staff had already decided to shut down. A waiter took our menus without saying a word. Moments later, a female staff member turned off the TV and projector, leaving us sitting in silence, the only guests in the room, waiting awkwardly for food that hadn’t even arrived. It felt like we were being pushed out before we’d even started eating.
Then came the food: A steak that looked like it had been cooked in a cold pan, not grilled. No sear, no crust—just pale meat with barely the blood drained. The chips were mostly cold leftovers, with a few fresh ones mixed in. The salad was minimal, almost like scraps. It was careless, rushed, and completely lacking in effort.
I had initially posted a review expressing my disappointment, and the reply I received simply shifted all responsibility to the chef. But I want to know: Was the person who replied actually working during that time? If so, they share responsibility for what happened. There was no manager or supervisor present in the dining area to take ownership, and the entire experience felt abandoned.
You said you’d speak to the chef—but what about the rest of the team? The service, the atmosphere, and the food all reflected one thing: “Let’s just get this over with and go home.”
To anyone reading this: I hope your experience is better than mine. But based on what I saw, I wouldn’t...

But it isn't. Mostly because of the food and a bit to do with the atmosphere.
The service was really friendly and beyond. They bring out your Guiness to your table, to ensure it's a proper pour
The food, is not good at all. We had a group of six and a said it was gross.
Its not totally inedible, just not what I'd ever be pleased to pay for, crave or ever wish to repeat.
Atmosphere is a 2/10. But probably because noone wants to eat.
I had a Ceasar Salad + Calamari. I ate half of one of the Calamari and left the rest on my plate. It didn't look right... tasted worse.
Same was said for the Schnitzel;
It looked like it came from a packet and bland; The other salad was gross and also not eaten, apparently the flavours just didn't meld.
Chicken wings. One was eaten the rest left; they looked bad.
The burger is the most boring American style cheeseburger with a relish - No real salads, just mush and gross. (Side note: What's happening with many pubs not having beetroot and salads on their burgers? Its no longer a local Australian place, it's just American/international Gross slop - Can't even take International visitors to these places to try Australian food, it's embarrassing).
Apparently the fries tasted like McDonald's fries, so that could be good if you're into it.
Who writes these menus or takes quality control?
Unfortunately, we will probably be back. But as rarely as possible - they do have UFC/sports and the beer is Ok; Until something better opens, it will just chug along doing half the business of its potential for such a suburb....or it will close and hopefully (finally) a good chef/operator will arrive to replace it.
If it wasn't for such nice wait staff there really isn't much...

We were greeted by two wonderfully friendly bar tenders, and they have a very nice range of different beers, wines and cocktails. So the visit began with a nice big beer and some people/dog watching in the outdoor area facing the street. The lovely chocolate Labrador who greeted us as we arrived out there was an added bonus!
Most importantly though was the food. We had a side of Buffalo Wings which all three of us agreed were as delectable as you could hope for. They had a sauce which was the perfect level of spice mixed with punchy flavours which all worked perfectly together. I highly recommend that any fan of Wings should not go past these!!
The real winner was the Chicken Parmigiana. They batter and crumb their fresh chicken breast in house!!! The serve was very generous and I was hoping that it wasn’t too much after the Wings, but due to the high quality of the ingredients, and them being so fresh, I quite comfortably eased my way through it and left very satisfied, but not that uncomfortable feeling of being too full after one eats too much of a lesser quality food.
A beautiful meal when put together with golden shoestring fries which are lightly herbed and salted and a fresh green salad, I have to say that I cannot remember ever having a better Chicken Parmagiana!
The service, food and location were all amazing!! I could not speak highly enough of Dalgety 2.0 and if you are reading this in the search for a wonderful meal, look no further!
