I've been to Sushi Room 3 times, and each experience was extremely unpleasant. As a high-class restaurant, the service and food are definitely not worth the price.
First Visit (A la carte): We went there to celebrate my birthday. However, they cut my birthday cake into four pieces without asking us. They knew it was my birthday, and I've never seen a restaurant cut a customer's cake without permission, especially for a birthday celebration. In the end, they didn't even apologize.
Second Visit (Omakase): We booked a month in advance but received no confirmation email or text. The day before our visit, we called to double-check the reservation. They informed us, "Our online booking team and call booking team are separate. It seems there was a miscommunication between our booking teams, and unfortunately, we don't have any seats available for you tomorrow." We were extremely upset. After negotiating, they offered us seats at 5:30 PM and would like to offer something special to apologize for the inconvenience. On the day of the reservation, they prepared nothing special, and their attitude was rude and impolite. When we mentioned the offer they mentioned on the call, the waiter said, "We have already offered the seat to show our apology. What else do you need?" We weren't looking for any extra advantages. The offer was made by them. I couldn't believe this service cost $330 per person.
Third Visit (Lunch Set): The waiters kept interrupting our conversation and walked right through the middle as we were taking photos. When we finished the meal in an hour, the waiter kept urging us to pay the bill and was not willing to refill our water. The entire experience took less than two hours.
Based on these experiences, I decided to write this review. I don't find their food particularly outstanding. It's really disappointing to receive such poor service and quality at a restaurant in an award winning...
Read moreDined here and had the omakase course which is only available via a phone reservation requiring a full pre-payment, usually available daily with 6-8 guests depending on the night, and two sessions on Fri-Sat. The omakase is served at the sushi counter where the surrounding is dimly lit yet keeping the immediate dining counter space well lit so you can enjoy the visual experience as the chef carefully prepares each piece of nigiri sushi.
The omakase consist of 20 courses, about half of which is a nigiri. Also included is a welcome champagne, toro maki topped with caviar, lobster sashimi, mini chirashi with uni and ikura; hot dishes including scallop with uni tempura, chawanmushi, dry aged duck breast; and a yuzu genmaicha jelly and ice cream with olive oil and caviar for dessert. The omakase took two hours with the dishes served in a timely manner.
Overall it was great omakase dining experience; everything was very tasty including the nigiri, hot dishes and desserts; seafood was very fresh. Only minus was the duck; very flavourful but a little tough. Service was great from the staffs and Chef Shimpei who was serving the sushi was friendly and engaging. Definitely very pricey but with the variety of quality ingredients, the atmosphere and having a sort of exclusive dining experience with each chef serving for 2-3 guests for the omakase, it might be worth for a...
Read moreWe decided to try Sushi Room for my partner’s birthday. The sushi wasn’t bad but it wasn’t exactly great either; the hot dishes were actually better compared to the sushi, despite being called Sushi Room.
What irks me the most was actually the service for our table was absolutely terrible; all the tables around us seemed to have decent service, whereas us, I had flag down the waitress several times just to get my water refilled. I mean, if you're going to tuck away the sparkling water we pay for, the least you could do, is make sure we’re topped up.
On top of that, when they served our main sushi order, they were short about 3 servings, but the waitress was so damn sure we were served the right dish. Lucky for us, we always take pictures of our food for cases like this (normally reserved for the dodgy places), otherwise it would’ve had to argue about the extra $30 or so that was not served?
For this kind of price range, it’s not the kind of service you would expect. I mean, maybe it was just us, because the other tables seemed to have decent attention—I guess you should order heaps of drinks or the $300pp omakase or something, regardless of your preference, less you get the kind of...
