My recent trip to Tasmania has been overshadowed by an absolutely horrifying experience on your roads. I have traveled extensively across the globe, and I have never encountered such an appalling amount of roadkill as I did while driving through Tasmania.
It was gut-wrenching to see over 50+ dead animals strewn across the roadsides. Every few kilometers, there were yet more lifeless animals – wallabies, possums, and other native wildlife – left to rot. The sight was not only heartbreaking but also completely unacceptable for a destination that prides itself on its natural beauty and wildlife.
This isn’t just an eyesore; it’s a significant failure of wildlife management and road safety practices. How can Tasmania call itself a haven for nature lovers when its roads tell such a grim and disturbing story? Where is the effort to prevent this? Are there no measures like wildlife crossings, fencing, or driver awareness programs to mitigate this carnage?
As a visitor, driving through your roads felt less like a journey through paradise and more like a harrowing experience in a wildlife graveyard. The Tasmanian Tourism Center and local authorities need to take immediate and substantial action to address this crisis. This is not just a tourism issue – it is an ethical one, and it reflects poorly on Tasmania’s reputation.
Until this issue is resolved, I cannot recommend Tasmania as a travel destination to anyone who values wildlife and responsible tourism. Please, take this seriously and do better for your wildlife, your roads, and...
Read moreBooked a cruise by Hobart Visitor Centre with Gordon River Cruises. They blame each other and the customer. What I expected was a confirmation email with the correct information. No email confirmation, printed info incorrect, I had to pay another cruise. And the manager contacted to make sure to fully blame the customer. Don’t pay anything before receiving the needed information. Make sure your questions were answered. I can only blame myself for quickly paying and trusting that a confirmation email will follow. When in trouble and calling info centre you get an answering machine. The other number on that piece of paper was a mobile from a Hobart restaurant, nothing to do with cruises. Wouldn’t be easier to send a confirmation email? But hey, that’s a proof and they can’t blame the customer. Save yourself from distasteful conversations and simply give the money to the local company DOING the job. The seat warmers from the city…The most upsetting was the conversation with the manager who wanted to be right. Be right, you saved me all futures trip plans, won’t spend anything more. There other places in the world much nicer. Then wonder why people don’t want to come and work here. Beautiful nature, geography and you wonder reading on LinkedIn why people don’t go there or stay less than planned. Got my...
Read moreIf I could give 10 stars I would have done it. This visitor centre should be a mandatory stopover before starting your holidays in Tasmania. You can go there with confidence! I arrived at the visitor centre at the beginning of January with a lot of questions of things I could do. I was in Hobart for a week and didn't have a car. I met Adi, the manager. We chatted and he asked me what kind of vacation I liked. With what I told him (hiking, nature, wildlife watching), he gave me invaluable advice and helped me plan my stay in Hobart and booked me an excursion to Maria Island. But his help didn't stop there! As we talked more, I told him I was going to rent a car for a week from Launceston. I asked him what I should do. I didn't expect him to plan my whole week, but he did. He took the time to tell me where I should stop, where to hike, watch wildlife and shared local insights. I did this road trip at the beginning of February and it was the most amazing trip thanks to him! He really understood what I liked and gave me great advice. I'm so glad I came to the visitor centre. It was the best way to start my trip to Tassie. So thank you again. I had...
