My wife and I had the great pleasure of dining at Mu Lan recently. We were very impressed with the quality and taste of all that we ordered. We started off with Duck Lettuce Wrap, which was delicious, the nicely seasoned and prepared duck complemented nicely by Cos lettuce. I had the Salt & Pepper Calamari, excellent, cooked to perfection, lovely crusting with tones of cumin and fennel. The Wonton Soup was also great, maybe just slightly too salty, but the pork dumplings were wonderfully tasty! After our entrees we were anticipating our mains, and the Salt & Pepper King Prawns and the Yearling Beef with Cashews and Mushrooms were both excellent choices. The beef was served with a liberal serve of Broccoli, but the Prawns were basically unaccompanied. We chose to order a Fried Rice to supplement our mains, but in retrospect this was too much, and we did not finish this dish. Dessert was Affoggato, which probably needed Drambuie or similar rather than a Whiskey as the Liqueur part, but was otherwise great. Fried ice-cream with a robust coconut crust and caramel sauce was well prepared and delightful. We accompanied our meal with a bottle of Milton's Rose, a high quality local wine which was well priced for a restaurant at $50. A fabulous meal, served very nicely by our excellent waitress, and we look forward to our next meal at your fine restaurant! Tips for the diner: The serves are on the generous side, so don't be tempted to overorder! Certainly among the very best Chinese Restaurants in Hobart. Not expensive for the quality and quantity of...
Read moreI knew it’s going to be bad but didn’t know it was to be this awful! If you are easily impressed by take away food then go and pay $30 for a dish I wouldn’t pay 12 for. Only 2 tables and it took 30mins for 6 drinks to come out we are table 2. My food came out first at least 15mins before the other 7 plates and of course I wouldn’t eat while work collègues are watching! Sent it back to be put under the heat lamp and came back cold as!! Staff not seen as they are chatting 24/7 in the back. Had to eat my dry cold lamb with no wine to wash it down. The best part of the entire meal was the wine! Thanks Kate Hill and this restaurant should be ashamed of calling it fine dinning, and what make it worse the staff and owners are Chinese!! They have no respect to their food or culture. A massive nooooo and no wonder why it’s empty. Ps I’ve been managing restaurants...
Read moreFifth visit and a satisfactory experience. No booking and dined upstairs. Upon ordering I have never had a waitress suggest we ordered too much. We ate it all! The service was sporadic. With empty wine glasses for some time and no attention, I got up to get a wine menu and had to flag down waitress for a second drink. Staff need to scan surroundings when performing a service to maximise attention needed for all guests. Entree calamari was fantastic and very tender. More vegetables needed for Garlic Prawns as we had two snow peas, three slices if capsicum and some mushrooms. Prawns were fresh and nicely cooked. Duck pancakes had cold meat and no sauce serving spoon. Long pauses between courses and momentum of meal lost at times. Will be back and look forward to...
