Dining at this restaurant is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Sea Urchin Sashimi:pure indulgence. Bright golden lobes of uni, its creamy texture and briny sweetness washing over the palate like a wave.
The Tassie Salmon Sashimi:glistening slices that melted on the tongue. Each bite was so perfect.
The Tassie Bluefin Tuna:a revelation. The deep ruby-red color was stunning, but it was the flavour and texture that truly impressed. Rich, buttery, and delicately marbled, this was some of the finest tuna we’ve ever tasted.
The Seafood Dobin Mushi:a comforting, fragrant seafood consommé served in a traditional teapot. Every sip was an umami-rich immersion of ocean essence, with tender morsels of prawn, mussels and mushrooms steeped in a delicate broth.
The Tasmanian Cape Grim Scotch Fillet (M4+):spectacular. Perfectly seared to seal in the juices, this premium-grade beef was tender, juicy, and full of deep, grassy Tasmanian flavour.
The Gyutan Yaki:grilled ox tongue—was another standout. Thick sliced and tender with that satisfying chew. The umami-rich seasoning was on point.
The Kingfish Sashimi:exceptionally fresh and clean-tasting, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
The Lobster Sashimi:unbelievably fresh—sweet, firm, and full of natural flavor.
The Steamed Lobster nigiri:delicate and rich, highlighting the lobster’s freshness perfectly.
The Steamed Egg with lobster meat and tomalley:silky smooth and deeply savory.
The Lobster Congee:warm, comforting, and bursting with flavor.
A must-visit for any serious foodie. Just go there to have a try. Highly...
Read moreVisited earlier today at 7pm, was not busy at all. Food was fine but one waitress ( might be the boss ) seemed unhappy about all our requests. With no prior knowledge about Tasmania, I asked if we needed to order eggs individually because we ordered sukiya and they usually come with raw eggs to dip the meat. She said Tasmania eggs can’t be eaten raw. OK never mind, we wanted more soup for the sukiya and we asked the waitress wearing specs if she can add some for us and she said okay. She continued to say that we shouldn’t on the fire so big we should turn it low when it starts to boil and the soup was actually measured to be enough. Like what? We weren’t the ones who turned it on so big, do we need to know how to use a stove to eat here? Why you ranting to your customers? After turning the fire down, she never came back to add the soup and I noticed she wasn’t going to so I proceeded to ask another waitress who was so much nicer and did it for us immediately! So I guess the waitress wearing specs is the boss and tryna cut cost? lol we were also told the 500ml bottles were sold out and got the 720ml one instead now I think thats one of her way to “cut costs” too😂 Luckily I don’t live in Tasmania so I won’t ever come back here again but if you’re travelling from any other part of Australia, it’s really not worth it. Food compared to Sydney/ Melbourne 5/10 and service definitely 1/10(one for the other team members that have to...
Read more⭐⭐⭐ April 2022: To say I am deeply disappointed, would be an understatement. I returned this evening and noted that the same Salmon Foie Gras Don set was still on the menu at the front door. I enjoyed the set so much last visit, I thought I'd order it again. The waitress noted this was still an option, however the price had increased to $28. Given the increases everywhere, I agreed this would be acceptable. My order was taken, after waiting quite some time. Then, it was assumed that I'd wish for a fork and spoon, instead of chopsticks. When my meal arrived, it was only the don bowl. It was delicious, but missing all of the extra items that I had previously as part of the set. I was too tired to bother questioning the changes to the item. I paid, and left, not without taking a photo of the menu at the front door, clearly noting the Don was $24. Extremely disappointed.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ June 2021. I have no idea why it has taken me so long to try Yamashita Japanese Restaurant. I guess my initial hesitation was due to the fact the main restaurant dining area his hidden at the rear of the space. From the front, it seems deserted and closed. Once inside however, the staff are super courteous, and willing to talk through the menu. Fittout is a little basic, but the meals are divine. Prices are a little higher than I expected, however the quality and quantity are equal. Brilliant new player to the Hobart...
