Update, 23 Mar: Thanks Mark for the reply and allowing us to cancel the order at 715pm. What would help in future is to advise patrons on a rough wait times - ie longer than 1hr wait on food etc. Most of the group didn't want this experience to dampen the spirits of the night before the show. Looking at the kitchen, we can see how little space there is to service the entire dining area - like other estalishments, it could be worth advising clients as they step in the door, "the current wait is over 45 mins etc, would that work with your time"...
SUMMARY: "22 MAR 2025: OUR GROUP OF 10 LEFT HUNGRY AFTER 1HR 15MIN OF WAITING FOR FOOD. DONT BOTHER DINING IN; YOU GET FASTER SERVICE ORDERING TAKEAWAY FROM THIS JOINT - THEY SERVE THEM FIRST AND LEAVE THE DINING-IN DINERS WAITING. LOADS OF UNHAPPY FACES AT THE ENTRANCE AS ID IMAGINE PEOPLE ONLY REALISE THE WAIT AS THEY ARRIVE AFTER HAVING ORDERED THEIR FOOD OVER THE PHONE."
WHY WE DECIDED TO COME: Tonight, we (a group of 10) came to the restaurant (having made a booking a few days prior), fully with the intention of tucking here briefly before a quick 1 minute walk to the theatre. During the booking, we had asked SPECIFICALLY "what time is a good time to come if we're going to a show at Princess Theatre at 730pm"... the lady told us to book for 6pm. We did.
TONIGHT: ⏩️ Fast forward to tonight... We waited from 6-715pm (and 3 attempts at chasing up the order which we only started around 7pm, after 60 min of patient waiting)... we LEFT WITHOUT OUR MAINS. We were extremely hungry. Very hungry before a 2.5 hr show. We shared 2 bottles of wine and each had 2 bits of entrees... we paid $20 per person (x10 people). NO MAINS.
SERVICE; There was no checking in. At the start, we had also reminded them that we had to leave around 715pm. Clearly they were understaffed and absolutely impossible to service the demand.
OBSERVATION: Not surprisingly, HUGE QUEUES OF UNHAPPY FACES AT THE FRONT PEOPLE WAITING. YOU MAY GET SERVICE QUICKER IF YOU ORDERED TAKEAWAYS FROM THE RESTAURANT - DO NOT DINE IN. Now, we have just left the theatre at 1030pm on a Sat night, not eaten dinner. BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED. The kitchen is waaaaaay to small to be servicing the size of the dining area. The waitress was doing her best... but how is she to service 30 people dining in with at least 30 orders going out the door for takeaways every 30 mins? Impossible.
REMARKS: Launceston needs good asian restaurants and good service. And, good restaurants that can service the demands of patrons around the theatre for pre theatre food. The infrastructure of this restaurant cannot...
Read moreWe went on New Year’s Day so I’m not sure if our experience was just normal for this restaurant?
We were greeted and seated quickly which was good. And the staff was very friendly. Order was taken very quickly but the wait for our food was long! And worse, the waitress brought us someone else’s food. The table next to us kept looking at our table knowing it was their food and not ours and then waitress did it again but this time around brought our food to another table! I think she’s new so not a big deal normally. 🤦🏻♀️
Also, the restaurant was full but had only 1 waitress (who was new?) that was visibly attending to everyone. They brought us our dishes but took a long time to bring us rice. And brought rice for the next table but they had no food to eat with the rice! They forgot to bring us tea. We ordered, asked again after awhile. They came back to ask if oolong tea was fine. We said ok. Waited some more and still no tea. I gave up and just told the waitress to just forget it since all the food had come and we were nearly done. At least, we had water.
Some food was really well cooked and good but some was just not. Fried rice was good but sweet and sour pork and the deep fried chicken with honey sauce was soggy. Seafood hotpot was very yummy but for $31, portion was small.
Overall, we felt that the food was pricy and...
Read moreThe food quality was very good, so the 3 stars if for the chefs and the young girl at the front desk. The poor rating is for the service. The table we booked was given away to other diners so we were squashed onto a small table (5 of us). We then waited 45 minutes to place an order, even after trying to order at the desk and was told to wait at the table. The first order arrived 45 minutes after ordering. The food delivery was intermittent, with the last of the 5 meals delivered after the others were finished. We didn’t get a drink order, only received half the rice ordered, and when paying, the manager was arguing with the customer before us who complained about the same wait. After pulling up our charges, she then applied a 15% tip for great service, and was told if we didn’t pay the tip, it was coming out of the wages for the poor girl at the front desk. Horrible service. Won’t be back despite the...
