Colombo Impex — Restaurant in Melbourne

Beware of the Colombo Impex in Dandenong, as we were sold rotten food for the second time. We let the first time go not paying much attention to it. We didn’t shop there much afterwards. We purchased some “Godamba Roti” last evening (17th December 2014) and when we got home we realized that all of them were rotten even though the expiry date was marked as the 23rd December. (See the pictures). We immediately return the rotten “Godamba Roti” and expressed our displeasure to the staff but they took it really lightly saying “it is not our product” but we highlighted that if it is on their shelf they should take responsibility of it. The Lady (I think is the owner) was saying it has gotten rotten since it was a hot day. I got my money back but I don’t think it is fair for the customers that they don’t care of the food they sell. I don’t think there are any valid excuses to sell rotten food to their customers. We are going to make a formal complaint to the Dandenong Council since this is the second time within a few months. It is a well-known Sri Lankan shop in Dande and you get a lot of Sri Lankan food there but they shouldn’t be selling rotten food at any cost. I have been buying alot of food for my mother in her nursing home for the last couple of months the lady owner has been fantastic allowing her chef Rohan to make anything my mother wants to eat as my mother is 96 years old. Rohan the chef your pork curry rocks and thankyou for going out of your way to help me make my mothers wishes come to life as in nursing homes they dont get tasty food and my mother is in a 5 star nursing home. I know my mother longs to eat stringhoppers with fresh coconut sambol Pol roti with fresh coconut. Pork curry with no onion these are my mothers requests and Padmini the lady owner has gone way above the call of duty to get this done by her chef. I would have to be the most demanding customer in Melbourne and all I can say is I am very happy with the quality and taste of food given to me. I have never had any negative experiences. Colombo Impex still produce sensational Sri Lankan curry and rice, and the string hoppers are excellent. Stopped off to pick up some supplies and treated myself to curry and rice. Excellent curry, rice and vegetable curries. Consistent and well made. The shop has a good selection of Sri Lankan groceries and an excellent range of rice - Sri Lankan rice is something to try. Given the cost of importing and the challenges Sri Lanka faces, I am very happy to support Colombo impex who keep prices manageable and continue to import key staples that can be hard to get.
