Flavour Cafe / Bar — Restaurant in Melbourne

These people are classic Melbourne. So much of what makes Melbourne the most liveable city in Australia. I had endured a bad experience at the place across the road from them (outside the hospital), and came in grumpy and whinging about it. (I had needed to freshen up for a job interview, and they'd essentially lied to me about having a bathroom when they took my order - with minutes to go before my interview. When I complained politely but directly, they called building security on me! What?!). At Flavour, the lady behind the counter immediately saw my distress and escorted me to the bathroom in their building straight away. They quickly whipped up the most delicious coffee. The place is roomy and airy, with outdoor dining avab in a lovely courtyard. I came back after the interview for a celebratory coffee and meal. Very affordable and the most tender chicken! By now the boss was there and classic Melbourne: friendly, helpful, and chats with you like you're one of the family. If I get that job (which is pretty well paid, actually!) I will be coming here often. Unlike the other rude, dishonest people. Thank you guys - you made me feel so much better and probably helped...

I go here pretty consistently 1 Day a week at the same time due to a work break but find the system of whether to pay first, what to collect coffee, have it bought out to you, or get called over to collect food is never consistent and staff are rude and abrupt when you inevitably do the wrong thing. I even tried keeping a note on my phone to remind me of what the system is from week to week in order to try and avoid their gruffness but it didn’t work out because their system appears to change from week to week. It’d be fine if they weren’t self righteous about it. Enjoy the food but tune out to the staffs...

If you have any allergies 100% avoid. I asked for gluten free toast on my order and was severed it on normal white bread. I didn't notice as I was busy talking until a minute later another staff member bought out a plate with the gluten free toast. If this was a serious allergy my food was already contaminated and could have been a very serious issue.

Food quality is also wildly inconsistent and the staff never seem to know what's going on or what they should be doing. If you show up within an hour or two of close don't expect them to cook you...
