This was a truly disappointing dining experience for several reasons sadly.
I rang up in the afternoon to place a reservation for my family. I booked a table for 8 people at 6pm. The person I spoke to even took my name and number. My partner and I first arrived and apparently they didn't have a record of the reservation. The waitress told us just to sit anywhere. When I said there were 8 of us, she directed us to a large round table. She coldly placed two menus and a piece of paper to order. Already, this was not a good start of the experience. As a Filipino myself, I'm used to our warm and welcoming culture. She seemed apathetic, uninterested and indifferent.
After sitting down, the chairs were way too low for the height of the table. I'm fairly tall for a Filipino however my family members are shorter and would have definitely struggled. How impractical!
Minutes later, everyone else arrived. We chatted amongst ourselves and decided to move to two unoccupied tables which still weren't enough to fit us all. There were only two other people eating at this point and it wasn't busy at all. The staff could see we weren't settled nicely but didn't do anything about it. They just kept to themselves behind the cash register; one was on her phone and another was drinking bubble tea. We decided to pull another table unprompted to fit us all in. At this point, I was quite unimpressed by the lack of initiative from the staff.
When we sat, we only had two menus that my partner and I were initially given. We had to call someone over to get more menus. Again, it's disappointing how inattentive the staff were.
We then asked if they served tap water. The waiter explained this wasn't a service they provided and said we would have to buy mineral water instead. We refused to pay for water so one of us grabbed drink bottles from the car. Later on, we see that another table is served a jug of water. I'm not sure if they're regulars or friends but it was disappointing that they seemed to bend the rules for other patrons.
We proceeded to order our food. We were quite excited when it eventually arrived. The wait times were reasonable and we took selfies with the food in anticipation that this would be the redeeming factor of this experience. Of the three tables we put together, there were only 2 serving spoons in the cutlery receptacle. They knew how much food we ordered and didn't have the foresight to restock this so again, we disappointingly had to ask for more serving spoons.
We ordered a serve of garlic rice each. Some had fried garlic sprinkled on top while others didn't. We were unsure why this was the case. Normally we would let this go however with the negative experience we'd had so far, we decided to ask for more.
The pansit canton was too sweet, the kare-kare sauce lacked flavour and worst of all, the pork sisig was actually overcooked! The sisig was burnt and had a strong charcoal taste.
We complained about the sisig and explained that it was burnt so they took it back to the chef. In these instances, one would expect to get another serve of the same dish. Instead, they asked us if they would like us to cancel the order instead and they won't charge. Given how much of a let down everything was so far, we decided to just cancel the order.
Some people may disagree with me about the food and flavour as this is subject to opinion. Food aside, the staff were far from adequate.
We were going to order halo-halo and other desserts however we saved ourselves any further disappointment and chose to have dessert elsewhere.
This was not quite the memorable dining experience I had hoped for with my family, especially from a restaurant with many reminders from our beloved Philippines. It did end up being a memorable one but for all the wrong reasons. Not an experience we will forget. We do...
Read moreWe went to this place because I saw the reviews were okay, BUT I don’t understand how they can say such good reviews! My whole experience with my family was disappointing.I brought my Samoan partner so he could try filipino foods that I haven’t cooked for him yet, but he was just disappointed as I am.. first THE PLACE WAS HOOOOT!! No AC was turned on during a 31degree weather 🥵 secondly there was only one person getting the orders and serving..third, SOME OF THE FOOD THAT I ORDERED WAS NOT AVAILABLE 🤦♀️ only to find out after waiting too long, oh and they serve the food one at a time which was annoying, when the ate served the second meal, that’s the only time she told me that my inasal order is not available, so i had to choose another dish which i waited too long turned out that bicol express is tasteless and yucky from all the fats and absolutely disgusting to eat..hindi mo alam kung ano yung kinakaen mo honestly..fourth, the servings are small and expensive for the price!! Like c’mon 🤦♀️.. Just for reference we ordered (chips*but NA so they asked if we could have wedges instead na wala naman sa menu nila, chicken alfredo na parang kahapon pa niluto tas ininit lang sa low heat kasi kahit yung pasta durog durog 🤦♀️, beef caldereta na ganon din parang kahapon pa niluto, hindi appetising tignan, chicken inasal sana na sinabing NA nung nakaserve na lahat so i chose bicol express na ayun nga walang lasa, 3 drinks and 3 rice and isang halohalo for a...
Read moreThis place was suggested by a relative to try out so we can order some Filipino food to be delivered to my Mum's, who's an elderly. We were also excited to know this place as there are just a handful of Filipino food restaurants in Melbourne's South East suburbs. At first the quality and quantity of food was ok. The food are normally packed in a 500ml plastic takeaway containers (small). After a few months ordering from this place we noticed that the quality and quantity of the food was declining. The food is not packed to the brim of the container, just half of the container. With their Pork Adobo they included little pieces of pork ribs / pork rib tips, which has high proportion of cartilage and there were just less pork meat in it. Kare Kare had less sauce in it and less meat. Comparing to any Asian cuisine takeaways they use 700/650ml takeaway containers, the food is packed to the brim and more ingredients. More value for money and they taste great and authentic. The Filipino food provided by this place is really disappointing. We stopped ordering from Rapsa as we're not getting value for the money we pay for the food we ordered. I'm hoping you will improve in the near future for the sake of the Filipino-Australians who live around the South...
