Authentic Taste of India – Where I Reached Naan-lightenment 😍🙏
I came in expecting a solid Indian meal. I left emotionally overwhelmed, spiritually fulfilled, and slightly concerned about how I’d survive without eating here every day.
Let’s start with the Fish Malabar. One bite and I saw my ancestors nodding in approval. The coconut sauce was so rich and velvety that I nearly pulled out a spoon and just drank it like soup. The fish? So tender it basically gave me a hug on the way down.
Then came the Kadhai Chicken — a dish so perfectly spiced, I swear it was flirting with me. The heat built up slowly, just enough to remind me I was alive, but not so much that I started sweating and questioning my life choices. And when I paired it with the Saffron Rice? Oh. My. Garam Masala. It was fluffy, golden, fragrant—basically rice that went to Harvard.
But THEN… came the Lamb Curry.
I have never in my life had lamb this tender. I didn’t even have to chew — it just melted in my mouth like it had been slow-cooked by the gods themselves. The sauce was rich, the spices were deep, and at one point, I was just nodding silently to myself like I had reached enlightenment.
And now, let’s talk about the Cheesy Garlic Naan.
This naan deserves its own Netflix documentary. It was soft, buttery, garlicky, ridiculously cheesy, and frankly, a life-changing experience. I started rationing it like a doomsday prepper because I didn’t want it to end. And when I got to the last piece? I stared at it for a full 30 seconds, contemplating life, the universe, and whether I should frame it instead of eating it. (I ate it. Obviously.)
To maintain a shred of dignity, I sipped on a Gin and Tonic, pretending I had self-control. (Spoiler: I did not.)
Then… dessert arrived.
The Gulab Jamun? Warm, syrupy, and so soft that I’m convinced clouds are modeled after them. I popped one in my mouth and suddenly, all my worries disappeared. World peace is possible — just serve these at political negotiations.
The Pistachio Kulfi? Creamy, nutty, and so smooth that I took one bite and immediately reconsidered my entire stance on ice cream. It was so good that I caught myself smiling at it. Like a weirdo.
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t just a meal — it was a full-body experience. I came in hungry. I left deeply attached to my food, questioning all my past dining decisions, and slightly concerned that no meal will ever compare.
Would I come back? I would move in. Would I sell my car for another piece of that naan? Without hesitation. 10/10, highly recommend — just be prepared to leave in love, slightly emotional, and possibly questioning your...
Read moreEdit: I'd like to edit part my original review, after ordering again from this restaurant (although I'll stay with my original comment that the food has always been fantastic, as that has never changed). This time they did knock at the door to let us know the food had arrived, and apologised for leaving the food last time without letting us know it was there. Thank you.
I am a regular customer (well until today). I've never had any reason to complain about this restaurant as it's always previously been fantastic. Tonight we got food delivered but the delivery person decided to leave our food out in the cold and never even gave us the courtesy of knocking on the door to let us know our food had arrived. After quite some time wondering why the food was so late, we decided to check outside, and found cold food. We've had food delivered from this restaurant delivered before, but we've always heard a car pull up and we've gone outside to greet and thank them. We never heard a car this time, and honestly assumed someone would knock at the door. If it is common practice for this restaurant to not even knock and let customers know food has arrived, and not even display a shred of common courtesy, then I will happily take my business elsewhere. I'm honestly incredibly disappointed in the disrespect and lack of regard shown by the restaurant, but I'm equally disappointed in no longer being a loyal customer. It costs almost $10 to get the food delivered. Surely letting the customer know the food has arrived isn't too much of an inconvenience?? If it is, then it's too much of an inconvenience for me to ever order...
Read moreThis place, now called Authentic Taste of India, is nothing like the old Spice that used to be here. They’re still using the previous owner’s photo on the website, which set my expectations high, but it’s clear he has nothing to do with the current business, the food quality isn’t comparable at all.
The channa masala was the strangest I’ve ever eaten: a watery, broth-based gravy with no tang, no tomato, and no amchur. It didn’t resemble what anyone would think of as channa masala. The aloo gobi tasted very similar lacking freshness and vibrance with the same spice mix and again no sour note to lift the dish.
The “saffron rice” looked like it had been made with food colouring blotchy, unevenly dyed and the cumin seeds completely masked whatever saffron flavour might have been there. From the moment I picked up the takeaway bag I knew something was off: the food wasn’t hot, despite the wait. The uneven heat in the containers and lack of freshness suggested pre-cooked food reheated in a microwave. The samosa chaat was cold, leaving only the garlic naan (which was genuinely good) as the one bright spot.
Overall, I would have been disappointed in this meal at half the price. For what I paid, I felt...
