Warning be prepared before arriving with groceries and drinks!!
No fridges in the rooms!!
Yep at 50 years old and extremely well traveled from a very young age I have never arrived at a hotel to hear reception staff rudely shut me down on the phone with a grunted reply,
“sir there only coolers not fridges”
So after travelling all day and just wanting to have a snooze before a family dinner later that evening I spent 3 hours of backwards and forwards with said rude staff insisting a fridge be brought up to my room so we could store our food & drinks. My wife ended up going down to reception and bumped into a manager and he was great explaining to the very rude receptionist she was incorrect and our room had recently had a new fridge installed, so about an hour after that the maintenance man begrudgingly wheeled up a bar fridge apparently from an executives office, that’s right the executives office has a fridge but paying guests suites do not!
To add insult to injury the maintenance man had to return twice more to fix the toilet seat that kept coming off in my hand every time I went to lift the seat, comically the next time I went the seat came off in my hand again and that’s where it stayed for the duration of our stay on the floor (see pic attached)
The suite itself was actually well appointed, Complete with very comfortable separate lounge room the main bathroom was lovely & kitchenette with sink, microwave, plates & cutlery simply awesome unfortunately not very well cleaned most noticeably a bad stain on the carpet an eyesore the moment of entry & hand prints on the tv and cupboards etc.
A suite for a special weekend with my wife and the Mantra at Albury was an overall dismal disappointment that will unfortunately be long remembered for all the wrong reasons, management should be extremely embarrassed & deeply concerned if this is the standard set and accepted.
In summary
Train all your staff to treat paying guests with respect.
supply working fridges for guests rooms and suites it’s a minimum standard in hotel...
Read moreWe stayed a few nights and though the view was not that appealing provided your viewing eye level did not stray looking downwards opposite a Target into their loading dock, air-conditioning systems and rubbish skip... then somewhat picturesque into the mountain ranges.
The lifts were strangely slow despite two along with a mind of its own. The Sky Lounge at first we thought was a bar, though other patrons indicated it was more of a library with no views.
The parking arrangements are rather cramped, though better than most. If your car is a medium sized SUV or larger, best tip is to park closer to the exit ramp rather than closer to the lift entrance.
As for the rooms, the mini bar fridge which basically looked more like a wine cooler exhibited a strange smell.
The decor is modern, though if we had to be picky, I would say that despite flicking the switch for our room on the 5th floor to be cleaned, it was not and had to inform management twice to get it done.
We ended up using the gym, its half okay, best tip is to stick to the free weights, the machines looks as though they have not been serviced and while using them, felt like they were about to break.
On the day we went to gym to inspect the layout and equipment offerings, there was a family present though treated everything like toys and none of them looked as though they had ever been to an actual gym.
The overall establishment had a centralised location situated in the heart of Albury's CBD within walking distance and we spent our time walking around soaking in the sights and the weirdness of hidden shopping stores from the main street.
Within the establishment, there is also lobby bar and restaurant, the food is okay, not the best but adequately available.
Anyway, it was an interesting experience we would definitely come back but preferably not the poor view we experienced...
